Book Reviews of Lady in the Water: A Bedtime Story

Book Review: ok lets get one thing strait!
Summary: 5 Stars

this story started out as a bed time story he told his children then it grew and grew untill he made a childrens book out of it then sometime later he made the movie. ok we strait on this now? good the book is great my kid loves it and so do i the movie was great as well though i think a seperate entity on some levels regardless it is what it is on pages or on film a bedtime story.

Book Review: over-thought
Summary: 1 Stars

The story is good, but the pacing and layout is terrible. Pages will go by with no illustrations at all, and then when an illustration appears it is usually so small as to lack impact.

This is ironic, because in his interview Shyamalan talks about how important pacing and layout are, and how carefully they put it together citing the perfect marriage of word and image in books like Where the Wild Things Are. Well, he must've over-thought the whole thing too much, because the layout is so clunky and unintuitive as to make the entire reading experience awkward and unpleasant.

It's a terrible waste, because the story itself is rather interesting. However, pacing and layout are SO important in a picture book that his muddled and over-thought attempt render the whole thing practically unreadable. Maybe I'll warm up to it over time, but I think the opposite is more likely.

Book Review: passionate
Summary: 5 Stars

The art is great, and my Kearen, loves it, he is so in love with this book! Must buy if you have kids!

Book Review: wonderfully mysterious book, but know your children
Summary: 4 Stars

Knowing what works M. Night Shyamalan has created in the past, seeing that he wrote this book as being a "children's book" really made my head spin. I didn't think it was appropriate for young children, but after reading it more deeper, I think I saw what he was trying to say. I believe he uses strong spiritual ties to the book by discussing good and evil, and believing that we all have something important to do for the world someday. Depending on the maturity of your children, you can easily walk with them page by page looking deeper into the meaning of the story so that they can understand it better and take it to their level of imagination.
