Book Reviews of Lake in the Clouds

Book Review: Not so much
Summary: 2 Stars

I have really enjoyed the first two books in this series but I didn't like this one. I found myself feeling like I just wanted to get through it to the next one. I appreciate that these books have a pretty good authentic look at that time period but I just found all of it together depressing. I was also let down a bit by Hannah's story line. The situation with Liam felt like it didn't have enough closure and as much as I liked Strikes the Sky I felt like she should have been with Liam. I feel like any relationship she has will pale in comparison to what she could have had with him. This is probably just me, but that's how I felt. I also missed Nathanial and Elizabeth's in this book. I like the idea of getting to know new characters but I missed their presence. I will read the rest of the series and hope that they are a little more like the first two books.

Book Review: Perfect getaway!
Summary: 5 Stars

For anyone that wants to "get away" without having to pay for a plane ticket - this is the next best thing! This series is wonderful!

Book Review: The Bonner saga continues
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoyed Hannah's story and some of the subplots in this novel which is the 3rd in the Wilderness series. Hannah is one of my favorite characters and she faces many decisions and challenges for a young lady in 1800. She has always seemed mature and confident for her age, but she really becomes an adult in this book. This story takes place in Paradise and New York city. There are some weaknesses which have been mentioned by other reviewers. It is not a perfect story and several people are killed off by an epidemic, but I still would like to continue reading the series to follow certain characters. I have never been a big fan of Elizabeth, so I am glad Ms. Donati is concentrating on other characters now. I particularly enjoy everything about the Mohawk and other Indian charachers.

Book Review: Worthy of 4.5 Stars
Summary: 4 Stars

Sara Donati has written a great sequel here to Into the Wilderness and On A Distant Shore, worthy of 4.5 stars. Her writing ability carries this book and is pleasure to read. There are no shocking events here, the story simply and beautifully advances the Bonner saga forward. The climax is nicely constructed as Hannah must make a decision on the direction her future heads. The love story for this strong and independent character is nicely developed and builds anticipation for the reader. The author has done a nice job of making us like the next generation that is to follow. Fans of historical romance like the Outlander series will thoroughly enjoy Donati's writing and her characters.
