Book Review: WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!

As a teacher, I thought that this book would be absolutely ideal for showing my class of 9/10 year old children how to write a modern version of an old fairytale, so didn't mind paying the hardback price for this book, especially as the recommended age range on the cover was 8 - 12 years. However, I think that children of this age would find the constant references to American culture and the use of American words and phrases very difficult to understand. As an adult, I certainly wouldn't recommend this book to English children of this age, especially as the American spellings haven't been anglicized for an English market. Altogether, I found this book most disappointing and, for me, a waste of money, since I would never use these stories as examples for writing for Key Stage 2 children. Carol Plumb
