Book Reviews of Legacies: A Repairman Jack Novel (Repairman Jack)Book Review: Wilson scores big again with Jack Summary: 5 StarsI can't tell you how happy I was when I saw Legacies in the store. I have been reading F. Paul Wilson for wuite some time and proudly admit that he is my favorite writer. Ever since I picked up Reborn, I have been buying his books. Legacies brought back one of my fvaorite charecters, Repairman Jack (who was also featured in The Tomb). For those of you not familiar with Jack, picture Bruce Willis from the Die Hard movies but as a man that you can turn to to "fix" a problem you might have with someone. Legacies is wrote very well and keeps you turning the pages. Wilson keeps you wondering what will happen next and what deep, dark secrets are hiding at the end. Wilson also adds a little humor in how Jack handles a few of the problems that arise during the book. Legacies was very hard to put down and I was sad to see the book come to an end. I beg F. Paul Wilson to not make us wait another 10 years before we hear from Repairman Jack again.
Book Review: The working man's super-mercenary is back! Summary: 4 StarsMy first real exposure to Repairman Jack (apart from Nightworld). Wilson reprises the theme of the lone vigilante for hire extremely well and, as with most of his characters, Jack's character appears to have some credibility (i.e. when he chooses a creative approach to pacifying some car thieves rather than direct violence). The story line is tense and well-paced but, unusually for Wilson, the ending is strangely unsatisfactory. Whether this is more to do with wishful thinking concerning what I thought the outcome of the plot should have been rather than any deficiencies with the story is, perhaps, for others to consider. Suffice it to say that I'm hoping the less than neatly tied ends of the plot indicate a (welcome) sequel. I was also sorry to see the character of Yoshi was not as well developed as was warranted. The level of humour and creativity imbued in the character was almost reminiscent of RJ himself! I also caught the reference to the Gates house, which was featured in Sister Night ("Sibs" in the USA) . Wilson's penchant for dropping characters and places from old novels into current works provides some comforting familiarity between his stories (ref Kaze Glom in "Masque") and is a facet I particularly enjoy. Leaving all this apart, I can highly recommend Legacies on its own merits.
Book Review: Other Repairman Jack stories Summary: 5 StarsI agree with the other reviews that the Repairman Jack stories are some of the best out there today. But everyone seems to reference 'The Tomb' as Repairman Jack's only other story. Hasn't anyone ever heard of 'NightWorld'? This was the conclusion to his saga entitled 'The Adversary'. It includes the following stories: 1. The Keep 2. The Tomb 3. The Touch 4. Reborn 5. Reprisal 6. Nightworld 'The Tomb' and 'Nightworld' are the only ones with Repairman Jack in them, but the whole series is truly amazing and worth everyone's immediate attention.
Book Review: Repairman Jack is Back!! Summary: 5 StarsWow, this book was absolutely amazing. This is gonna start me as a fan of Wilson's. Repairman Jack should be one of the "Mystery Men", he is absolutely amazing! Superman is a pussy-cat compared to him!
Book Review: Excellent. If your not a fan, you will be after reading this Summary: 5 StarsI picked up this book on others recommendations...I wasn't disappointed. Repairman Jack is an excellent character, in the truest sense of the word. I have since bought Conspiracies and am desperately trying to get my hands on The Tomb and The Keep. Someone has also mentioned a book called The Adversary...where can I get it? A definate convert of F.Paul Wilson....although I'm no relation to him!
