What a fantastic find. I ordered this book solely on the front cover image and knew nothing of the work of Lenore Tawney. Known mainly for her weaving this book shows her lesser known collages which she made on postcards for her friends and family. She uses stamps, fabric, music manuscripts, magazine images and her own drawings in these poigant and powerful mini works. The postmark was integral to the images and she entrusted them to the American postal system with no protection. Often the postcards would have delicate items such as crab shells or pressed botanicals and would arrive intact. I would highly recommend this book to any artist working in mixed media or design in fact I think everyone would love to own this book. They make powerful statements about the political issues of the 60's 70's and 80's as well as more humerous and gentle references. With a small introduction the rest of the book is crammed full of illustrations. A book to treasure.
