Book Reviews of Leonardo's Swans: A Novel

Book Review: Dissapointing
Summary: 1 Stars

Despite spetacular attention to detail and cultural nuances, it proved lagging and drawn out. Don't write novels if you're not going to story well. The language doesn't flow. Poorly written, but the little views into Leonardo were great and almost made up for it.

Book Review: Escape into a great story
Summary: 5 Stars

With cancer screenings looming in my future, I needed a great diversion, and this wonderful, engaging novel provided just the ticket. I couldn't put the book down! In fact, I was so engrossed in the story that I intentionally left the last 50 pages so I could take the book with me to my CT scan. Reading Ms. Essex's story was such a delicious treat that the time flew by, and before I knew it I was scanned and done. Happily, by the way, I'm fine, and I would like to thank the writer for giving me such a joyful experience that could have been otherwise completely harrowing.

Book Review: Fun read but don't take it as historical truth
Summary: 4 Stars

Readers should keep in mind that what they are reading has very little historical truth to it. Other than that, just have fun with it.

Book Review: Great Read!
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this book although I agree with a previous reviewer that the title had no real significance and Leonardo was not the main character which was somewhat misleading. However...... I was captivated by the D'Este sisters and their lots in life. I was particularly taken by Beatrice and her ability to "rise to the occasion" and become a significant figure in Italian history. The book has enticed me to search out more titles about the great families living during the Italian Renaissance.

Book Review: Great characters and irresistable read
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this book a refreshing read that I couldn't put down. This book focused on characters that are unique, of whom I've never read about before. I found everything about this book - from the descriptions of DaVinci's art, to the churches and overall setting, to the development of the characters and plot - extremely fascinating. After reading this book, I had to research these characters on my own out of curiosity, and I found that Essex accurately depicted the lives of the sisters (with a few minor changes and a few date changes). This novel takes place during Ludovico Sforza's, Duke of Milan, time at court, and a portion of the book is set during the Italian wars. Isabella d'Este narrates the novel, and focuses on the life of her and her sister, Beatrice, who is married to Ludovico. I won't go into the plot - you can read that for yourself - but I will say that this is an irresistable novel that I highly recommend.
