Book Reviews of Let the ancestors speak: Removing the veil of mysticism from Medu Netcher

Book Review: Best In Its Class!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is quite simply the best introduction to hieroglyphic script and language study that a beginner can start off with! My only regret is that I wasn't introduced to this work sooner. Only after studying the works of Gardiner and later, Allen, did I come across this work in a neighborhood Black bookstore. By then of course, I already knew how to read the hieroglyphs but a cursory perusal of the book (30-40 minutes) convinced me that the book was worth acquiring if for nothing else but new insight. Needless to say, I was not disappointed with this work iin the least. In addition to a full treatment of the introductory grammar with exercises, the author provides a few photographs of actual text from real artifacts (something no other grammar I have encountered has done). This may not seem like a big deal but for a beginner, reading a book may be one thing but being able to translate directly from a photograph a actual text brings one to a whole new level of accomplishment. The book is very easy to read being written in a generous font size, small text being a problem with other grammars I have encountered frequently. The book is about the thickness of a good sized magazine on almost standard paper size (~8x11) which means it is not a hassle to take with you! Lugging around textbook sized grammars is in itself a chore and this volume's easily transportable size is a genuine benefit. Oh last but not least, lest we forget, this is the only grammar of the Egyptian Language I have found to date written by an African with an African audience in mind. Indeed the title 'The Ancestors' is referring to our Ancestors! I will say every African soul (and most especially those displaced and confused in the wilderness of North America) needs to hear these voices! ...Do it instead of the movies for a weekend, and learn something.
