Book Reviews of Listen to the Wind

Book Review: A great book for kids on philanthropy and making a difference in the world
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is wonderfully illustrated and well written. I had already read the adult version of Three Cups of Tea so I could have been biased by my strongly positive impression of the adult version. However, bias aside, this is really nicely illustrated. And the story, while not as entertaining as pure fiction, is quite compellingly told. I read it to my 7 year old, and am also purchasing it for all three of my kids' classrooms as the end of year gift this year. I strongly recommend this book to all who want to educate their children in ways to make a difference in this world.

Book Review: A must have for every family. Marvelous Review by Sabah Quraishi
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a gem. Greg Mortenson's amazing true story is sublimely retold in this beautiful children's book. No detail is spared The incredibly beautiful and colourful collages by Susan Roth can be enjoyed a new every time you read this story to your children. The depth and sensitivity and care that Susan gives to the art in this book captures real heartfelt emotions. I find myself looking at this book often. I have given it as a gift and will continue to do so. The photo library at the end of the book is invaluable. In a nutshell it gives the reader a host of information, and a window into a world unknown.

Bravo Dr.Greig, Brava Susan Roth

Book Review: A must-have children's classic
Summary: 5 Stars

The children's version of the compelling "Three Cups of Tea".

Lots of talking points. Great collage artwork.

A different sort of picture book from the run-of-the-mill smilely versions. This one will make a child feel.

Book Review: A true life story that's been made accessible to younger readers
Summary: 5 Stars

"Three Cups of Tea" was the inspirational story of how one man, Greg Mortenson made a difference in the lives of children in the mountainous region of Central Asia, through his foundation the Central Asia Institute and also Pennies for Peace. The book focused on the fundraising initiatives and how Greg and his team were eventually able to build dozens of schools in the region.

I was delighted when I found out that there was children's version of this book, i.e. a picture book that I could share with my 4 year-old daughter. In 'Listen to the Wind", illustrator Susan Roth uses collages [made using fabric, cut paper and other items] to help Greg tell his story in a manner that will be accessible to younger children. The collages are simply beautiful and will inspire readers to try their own collage projects at home [my daughter and I were]. For those young readers who are curious about the actual place and people in the story, there is a scrapbook in the book that contains photographs of Korphe and its' people.

This is essential for all school and public libraries. The story is inspiring and teaches about charity - in "Listen to the Wind", younger children will be able to share in this true-life hope-filled story of one man's courage and determination to make a difference, and of the hope given to the people in Central Asia.

Book Review: An inspiring book!
Summary: 5 Stars

What a wonderful book!!! It inspires children just as the adult book, "Three Cups of Tea" inspired me. I purchased copies for my four young grandchildren, for our church Vacation Bible School, and for my daughter-in-laws 1st grade class. The artwork is beautiful! A class from a neighborhood in a depressed part of Houston used the book in a kindergarten class, and those children who do not always have food and clothing, collected several hundred dollars in pennies to send to Greg Mortenson for school supplies. How many books have that much power?
