Book Reviews of Listening Is an Act of Love: A Celebration of American Life from the StoryCorps ProjectBook Review: Everyone has an important story to tell. Summary: 5 StarsThis remarkable book reflects a portion of interviews created during the oral history project called "Storycorps." Looking into each others eyes the interviewer, maybe a grandfather or a grandson began by asking a simple question, say to a friend or lover and the answers that unfolded are stories of sacrifices, gratitude and many other expressions of love. Providing a place for these heartwarming stories for themselves and the readers to cherish forever.
One of the most touching stories for me was told by a hospital chaplain who gave a voice to many hospital workers who would have remained anonymous to others. These workers carry out the incredibly important task of gathering all the surgical instruments in preparation for surgeries to be performed. In speaking with these workers, the hospital chaplain learned that many of them read the names of the patients they were gathering the instruments for and prayed for them. And by the hospital chaplain just listening to these workers they discovered what an incredible gift they are and the difference they had made in many people's lives. The hospital chaplain then instituted a blessing of these hospital workers hands as a way of acknowledging them and their work.
Many of the stories in this book called to mind another book that I cherish by authors Ariel and Shya Kane, titled "Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment." "Being Here" is a compilation of life experiences of the Kanes, who are extraordinary masters of living in the moment, and those of their friends and family. In these tales you will also discover inspiring, amusing and enlightening stories of how rich and wonderful life truly is.
I highly encourage you to buy both of these books right now and rediscover or in some cases discover, how wondrous and precise your own life and loved ones are for yourself.
