That's pretty much all I can say about this novel. It certainly is the most frustrating, convoluted, wordy, and confusing story I have ever read- but I loved every second of it. Or did I? I really don't know. It is also the most elaborate, emotional, thought provoking, and inspirational story I have read either. Crowley is amazing at describing all those little thoughts you have in your head, all the intangible feelings you have, all the unfulfilled desires you feel- in a way that makes you think "Yes, exactly- that's it- that's how it is!" The book certainly gets larger, deeper, and more involved the further in you go. Those of you who need a final, conclusive ending with a clear plot line steer clear. However, it is a deeply moving book for reasons I really can't describe. I would really recommend taking your time and savoring all the (vast) descriptions- let yourself be immersed into the story. It took me a second try to finish the book- I just didn't get it the first time around and put it down, frustrated and bored. My second time was much more enlightening- I went into it expecting a deep read and was well rewarded (though it will be some time before I pick it up again- it's almost exhausting in it's complexity).Book Review: fabulous!

This is an absolutely fabulous book; my favorite book of all time. The prose is breathtakingly beautiful, a joy to read. It is so sad that neither this book nor Crowley are better known. This work is a monumental achievement of American Literature.Book Review: fav book

I bought this book when I was living in THE city on the lower east side about four years ago. I could swear that the guy who sold it to me was Fred Savage. I purchased it because of the cover, and the description on the back, and the charm of the old seller. (Old paperback copy with trippy picture) It was the best 50cents-$1.00 I ever spent. I won't go on about the book because from reading other reviews here, the story either crawls inside your dreams and mind and causes the most longing, wondrous sense of deja-vu, or it bores you. It is very close to my heart. There is no piece of art , literary or otherwise that has affected me so much.Book Review: harold bloom cant be too wrong

harold bloom from yale university, arguably the preeminent literary critic of all time, loves this book. it is his personal favorite. my opinion shouldnt hold any sway, but harold bloom's should.
