Book Review: An Insighful and Candid Memoir
Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of most poignant and insightful non-fiction I have read in recent time. It offers a candid look at Bill and Hillary's close relationship, and the inner working of the Clinton White House. I am impressed with the style of intertwining events. It is so dynamic. It adds some drama to an otherwise open-book life story. After intense scrutiny by the media and thorough investigation by the Clintons' adversaries, with this unique approach she provides her side of the story effectively. It is also refreshing to learn the less known, and less glamorous aspects of this highly achieved American: her mantra and aspiration.
Her bewildered experience with NASA's "no female need apply for astronaut" policy as a youngster, her early association with ethnic and racial diverse contemporaries, and her dedicated hands-on work with children are further testaments to her serious and genuine commitment to issues affecting women, children and other minorities.
Much to his credit and wisdom, President Clinton valued her talent and dedication to public service. As an uncompensated adviser and aid, she contributed much to the success of his administration. She was truly an unsung hero.
Hillary is cool-headed, controlled and vocal, all of which are attributes of an effective lawyer. Unfortunately to those not used to powerful females, she may be perceived as cold and calculated. This reader, a Chinese American man begs to differ. Having been educated here and abroad, I find it incredulous and sad that the American public is still behind the rest of the world, in accepting strong female leadership.
