Book Reviews of Living History

Book Review: Nice memior
Summary: 4 Stars

First I'd like to say that I do not agree with Hillary's philosophy.
but the book she wrote was interesting, and a lot of fun to read. it was a story of her life, starting from her childhood. she even included her parents' life before she was born. it was nice to see a politician sharing her life-story with readers who want to get to know her better.

to all those who want people to believe the worst in her, I have to say: this woman might not agree with you on issues, but she is still a nice lady, who had an amazingly interesting life.

Book Review: On the fence about Hillary? Read her book.
Summary: 5 Stars

Most people seem to have written a Curriculum Vitae about what led them to write a review, but I'm going to keep mine short and sweet.
When it comes to Hillary Clinton, people tend to fall into 3 categories:
1. The Love Her.
2. They Hate Her.
3. They strongly dislike her, but can't pinpoint exactly why.
I fell into category #3.
I was never a big Hillary fan, but I decided before the primaries began that it would be a good idea to learn more about her, b/c I thought she had a pretty good shot at winning. I could never put my finger on exactly what it was about Hillary that annoyed me....she just did.
After reading her book, I am a complete Hillary fan. If you are on the fence like I was, definitely read the first 100 pages of this book. Every 20 or so pages I would say "Wow, I didn't know that...."
I get it now.
As soon as someone says "I just don't like her" and they can't give me a specific answer as to why, I tell them to read Living History.

Book Review: Ongoing embarassment
Summary: 1 Stars

It was annoying from the opening pages because Mrs. Clinton had absolutely nothing relevant to say. Too much name dropping and oversharing which made me wonder if was she writing for historical record or to inflate her personal ego.

Book Review: Warm and engaging, taken at face value
Summary: 4 Stars

One reviewer described the Monica Lewinsky section of this book as "calculating (to win the reader's sympathy)". Their venom for Hillary Clinton was almost tangible. If you're predisposed to hate Hillary Clinton, this is the wrong book for you to spend time with - I do not recommend it. You'll grit your teeth and find every word disingenuous and self-serving.

If, however, you're predisposed to like Mrs. Clinton, or are neutral and are willing to take the narrative at face value, you'll be rewarded by an engaging portrait of a strong, highly intelligent woman whose central priorities are the rights of women and children.

I listened to this book on abridged audio, narrated by Mrs. Clinton. (Regretfully, only the abridged version was available from my local library.) Mrs. Clinton is an enthusiastic, engaging reader, who does an admirable job with her own material.

Book Review: Well written, honest book
Summary: 5 Stars

When I tried to buy a book on Hillary Clinton that wasn't by someone with a political axe to grind, it was tough. Obama was everywhere. Finally I decided to see what she herself had to say so I could judge for myself. I had to look hard for her book in a physical bookstore. Amazon has it in its bargain books. I think this says something about how we think we know Hillary Clinton and unless there is more dirt, we don't want to read what she has to say. I am glad I read this.

I found this book much better written than Obama's The Audacity of Hope, although that title is great. Clinton's memoir is definitely from her perspective; it's not Truth capital T, but it's honest and forthright. It's warm and humorous, and occasionally she gets frustrated. You won't learn new things about the Bill Clinton Whitehouse per se, but I did learn new things about Hillary. This book is intelligent and insightful.
