I usualy read contemporary mysteries. Elmer Kelton was mentioned as a writer of note in an on line arcticle I read.
I picked up this book and I was highly impressed with his style, his depiction of that time, and his wonderful characters, all human ordinary souls dealing with life as it comes to them. Now I am hooked and find myself reading Kelton nightly.
Llano River is much more that a Western. It is a story about the human condition, richly displayed, with character, and a simple yet heart warming morality throughout, timeless literature.
I highly recommend Llano River. Kelton at his best.
