Book Review: Good idea but disappointing value

The book contains some nice pictures and a bit of text on each dive site, but there's not much detail, and the writing fails to really bring the descriptions to life. At times I felt the text and picture combinations could have been describing any number of different dive sites around the world.

There is very little information on dive operators and how to find them, which may be because of the risk of such information going out of date quickly. However, there is much more information on operators in the Lonely Planet guide to Yucatan - and almost as much on the dive sites - I'd recommend buying that instead!

The usual Lonely Planet evaluation of its subject matter (commenting on quality, or giving some sort of opinion) is completely lacking and the net result is more of a "tourist brochure" or (miniatuarised) "coffee table book" than typically insightful Lonely Planet guide.

Overall, very disappointing - I didn't bother to take the book with me as it didn't justify the (small) luggage space - and it certainly doesn't compare to other Lonely Planet publications for value for money.
