The information about Auckland Airport wasn't as detailed or reliable as other travel guides I'd checked out, but the maps for the few parts of New Zealand I visited were pretty accurate. Sometimes I took road trips without buying a more detailed map because the small ones in the travel guide, combined with how well-marked New Zealand's roads are, were enough to get me there.
There were a couple of really good tips on places to stay that worked well for me at the last minute, probably because I went during the off season. The descriptions of activities and attractions were generally very dependable and included useful details. Much of the extra stuff, such as tips, human interest/native color pieces, sidebars on specific genres of activity, etc., ended up being very worthwhile. Unfortunately, it's a book that's meant to be read from cover to cover, because the useful information isn't presented in such a way as to be easily findable if you're just looking for something specific. You kind of have to stumble on it.
It's definitely worth the Amazon price, though. I used it because of the three I ordered, it's the only one that got to me before I left for my trip. And, it certainly wasn't a waste of money.
