Book Review: the dark side of the sexual revolution

disturbing tale of a young woman who dips her toe into the watersof the new permissiveness in late sixties/early seventies new york only to be swallowed up by its more sinister aspects
rossner's novel was written in 1975 and it shows, the book carefully examines
a sense of female anger, fustration and the exploration of a new
sense of 'self' removed from the stifling suburban norms of marriage and children that the central character believes she must avoid at all costs,hence her descent into a sexual decadence she can can't control
the problem all along with this book is that it sets out what eventually happens with an explosive beginning only to drag us through an incredibly drawn out psychological study of the character's past, so that when you get to the chilling, almost unbearable ending, you're left feeling cold
recommended but not a pleasant read by any means, but then it's not meant to be.
