Book Review: Stroller Strides Gives Mummy Tummy a Thumbs Up
Summary: 5 Stars

I am the founder of Stroller Strides, the country's largest postnatal fitness program. In my career, I read have countless books on pre / postnatal fitness. This book is indispensable for the mom who needs to work on her waistline (and who doesn't!). You have to understand the basics, the core exercises before getting back into a regular exercise routine. This book does just that. Stroller Strides gives it a THUMBS UP!

Book Review: THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a personal trainer for senior adults. One of my clients recently shared with me her story of how she discovered this wonderful book, which she describes as her exercise "bible." Before I met her, she had had a big, protruding belly for a very long time, coupled with low back pain. She finally went to her doctor who diagnosed her with Diastasis Recti and strongly recommended she read this book. He said it was written by a nurse who specializes in treating this condition. He told her that he recommends the book to all his patients with Diastasis Recti because it really helps! That was all she needed to hear. She ran out and got the book, did the exercises, got the splint, etc., and today she has a flat stomach, no more back pain, and best of all, she no longer has a Diastasis Recti! As part of her program with me, we continue to do the exercises together. I am so impressed with her results that I too recommend this book whenever any of my clients has this condition. There are also a variety of exercises in the book which are very suitable for seniors who do NOT have this condition. By the way, I contacted the author by email, and she was incredibly knowledgeable and willing to answer all my questions. THIS BOOK IS FOR WOMEN OF ALL AGES, not just women who have recently had babies. Get this book ladies; you will definitely not be disappointed. Julie Tupler ROCKS!!!!!

Book Review: Thank you Julie Tupler
Summary: 5 Stars

Thank you Julie! It has been one year since the birth of my second child and I will now be able to wear a bathing suit...a bikini..this summer. After I gave birth to my first child, I thought there was no hope of getting rid of my post-baby pouch. I tried Pilates and situps which did not help (and now I know only made my diastasis worse). I gave away all my post baby clothes since I figured that I would never fit back into them. Thankfully, I read an article about the Tupler technique prior to the birth of my second child. A week after my daughter was born, I started my exercise program using Julie's techniques. My diastasis was a 5! You need to be disciplined- wear the splint and work up to 1,000 stomach squeezes each day-but the results are worth it. If I rebel and do not do my exercises, I immediately feel my stomach starting to distend. I am so happy to have my pre-baby figure back. I did not think it was possible without surgery. Julie's book and DVD should be handed out during all childbirth seminars. I highly recommend watching the DVD and if possible attending one of her seminars. Leslie, NYC

Book Review: Waste of Money
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm returning this book. The "Groundbreaking Tupler Technique" is this: hold in your abs tight toward your spine. That's it. The rest of the book covers simple stretches and toning exercises that are common sense.

Book Review: Well worth a try
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm now 9 months postpartum after giving birth to my 3rd child, with a rather big jelly belly which looked like I was 3 months preggers. So I bought this book before doing a self-diagnostic for diastasis. I read the preface, the intro, and Chapter 1, and did all the exercises in the first chapter - by the way, they were really hard on the muscles, they made my stomach ache! - only then did I do the self-diagnostic for diastasis as described by Julie Tupler. Only then did I realise I did not have a severe diastasis at all (I only had a 1 finger-wide gap)! So I guess I don't really need this book after all.

That said, I learnt at least a thing or two from reading the non-exercise chapters, things about diet, body positioning, things to avoid doing in daily life to avoid damaging the muscles, etc.

A quick flip through the book made me realise that the exercises were meant for women who'd just had their baby... They were meant to be done straight after birth... a.s.a.p. of course. Then I realised perhaps I don't have diastasis because straight after birth, for the first 3 months, I had been doing every postpartum stomach exercise recommended on the exercise sheet given to me by my midwife... The exercise sheet being produced by the local hospital's physiotherapy department.

I think this book's exercises for the most part are pretty similar to the ones that physiotherapists recommend for postpartum stomach strengthening. They really do help, so I would recommend this book to any woman and recommend she do them every day faithfully (although I think this book provides a very intensive workout compared to the ones given on the exercise sheet from my midwives, which worked for me anyway)... so I'm not sure if its really necessary to do so many reps a day, like the 500 reps that the author recommends. In my exercise sheet, they only said to do like 10 or 20 reps the most, or as many as you want after that.

Sometimes diastasis can't be fixed by exercise though, and for such women I think surgery is the only option. But by all means, don't give up yet. Try the exercises, even if you cannot manage to do more than 10 or 20 of each a day. It will still make a difference. And always remember to hold your stomach in whenever you sneeze or cough, and just whenever you remember to do so, hold your stomach muscles in. If you persevere, it will work. Perhaps even if you didn't follow all the exercises in the book. Perhaps... you don't even need this book if you just want the exercises cos a quick search around the internet for "transverse abdominal exercises" will yield lots of fruitful results...
but its a good book to have around.

If you don't have any other source of advice about tummy strengthening exercises for postpartum women, or if you simply don't have time to trawl through the internet for the exercises for free, then buy this book. This would be all you need.
