Book Reviews of LoserBook Review: A Winner Book , Not A Loser! Summary: 5 Stars
Jerry Spenelli has created a heroic and inspiring book for all ages. I like his book ,Loser, because in one point of are lives we experience the painfull feeling of knowing we are alone and a loser. I think we should be more like the main character, Zinkoff, because he understands the concept of his life, which is:you can't be degrated by others' words as long as you are supported with love and security at home. Donald Zinkoff is a happy boy with out a care in the world who just loves school. Yet more than anything Zinkoff loves to win. But winning is a "challenge" Zinkoff can't seem to accomplish. Tis skill for constantly losing triggers his peers to tease him. For Donald however, it doesn't matter what the other kids think, but of what he feels about himself. I give this book a "high 5" because of the warm lesson it teaches you about life. It feels like you are inside the character's mind experiencing emotions the character goes through. Loser, keeps you rooting for the loser 'till the very end.
Book Review: A glimpse into a dyspraxic world Summary: 5 Stars
Few people realize it, but Spinelli isn't just writing about a different kid. He's writing about a kid who suffers from a disability called dyspraxia.
Dyspraxic children are clumsy, awkward, and so unco-ordinated that handwriting is Mission Impossible. Too enthusiastic at the wrong times? Caring? Unable to understand WHY other people make life so difficult? Yup, that's dyspraxia. I know. I suffer from it, and the boy at the centre of this book warmed my heart. Spinelli has perfectly captured the essence of how it feels to go from day to day not being able to do the most basic things, surrounded by other kids who can't understand why and tease you mercilessly for it.
Book Review: A review about the book LOSER written by Marwan El-Nakla Summary: 5 Stars
The book I read is called LOSER. It was written by the author called Jerri Spinelli. It is about a boy called Donald Zinkoff. Zinkoff loves school and since he was born he was look forward to his first day. He was an average boy until he reached 7th grade, that is when he became a loser. Zinkoff had no friends at all. Because he was such a loser that laughs at anything anybody says. Donald was hopeless at everything, he always got bad grades, he can't run and he has no friends. The main events were his first day in school and when he let his whole school down on field day. In school Zinkoff always raises his hands and gets the wrong answers, He also trips over his own feet. He does not know that he is not like anyone else. Donald always wanted to be like his dad when he grows up, his dad works as a mailman who delivers the mail everyday. One winter night he found out that a girl called Claudia was lost, Claudia is the only girl that understands his needs, so he went out that night to search for her. When Donalds parents found out that he was not in his room they called the police and so the whole town was looking for Zinkoff who was looking for Claudia. When Zinkoff found Claudia she was in big trouble, Zinkoff quickly ran and saved he from doing something very dangerous. From that night on Donald Zinkoff was known as a hero and that changed his life completely.
I would say that the genre of this book is adventure/comedy. This is an amazing book that everyone from ages 8-12 should read, because it shows you how a needy boy feels when he has no friends and it also relates to anybodies school life and it also tells you how a loser becomes a hero. That is why I am rating this book 5/5.
Book Review: An Inside Look At Bullying Summary: 5 Stars
Donald Zinkoff is one of the coolest kids you could ever want to meet, and the absolute coolest kid to hang out with. He loves school, wants to be friends with everybody, has a great laugh, he's just an all-around great guy. That is, until he hits fourth grade. Suddenly Zinkoff is no longer cool, he's a loser. Yeah, his sloppy handwriting, uncontrollable giggling, bad grades, clumsiness, etc. were pretty much unnoticed when he was younger. But suddenly, in fourth grade, everyone notices every single mistake he makes. And it only gets worse when he begins doing things that affect the other kids in his class. Sure, everyone has the name LOSER to describe Zinkoff, but that's not him. He thinks he's just like everyone else, and he really is, until a fateful winter night when Zinkoff suddenly becomes a hero.Out of every book that I have read so far this year, I will admit that I believe Donald Zinkoff is my favorite character of them all. His love for life, and learning is incredible, and the way that he keeps his head up even when he learns what his classmates think of him is a great lesson for all kids who are going through the same thing that Zinkoff goes through. Readers as young as the age of five-years-old will enjoy this book, as it follows Zinkoff from kindergarten all the way through fourth grade, and gives you an inside look at how his LOSER status evolved. Spinelli has accomplished greatness with this book, and I hope to read more from him in the future. Erika Sorocco
Book Review: Andrew's Review Summary: 3 Stars
I'm not sure if I like the book or not. There were reasons that i disliked it and reasons that I liked it. The reason that I disliked the book was because it seemed like the character was dreaming to much and those parts where very unclear. There were good things about the book to like the metaphors that the author used. The best part of the book was when the little girl, Claudia, went missing and Zinkoff wwent looking for her until 1:00 am even though she was found before 8:30. I liked this part of the book because of the metaphors that the author used in this chapter. One of the parts of the book that was most vivid to me was the characters. In the begining of the author doesn't really dicribe the characters but you can get a good picture from what the author discribes what they are doing. Like Zinkoff in the begining is anxious to go to school and wears a giraffe hat and his mother is in rush to get ready and go to work. The resolution was also very vivid and was a happy ending. Throughout the book Zinkoff is made fun of and is put down, like in 2nd grade he is made fun of during field day because he runs really slow ans isn't good at the games. Then at the end they are picking teams and he is the last one left and the captian points to him and says "Zinkoff".
