Book Reviews of Loser

Book Review: Best Book Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is about a kid named Zinkof. He is not your everyday kid. He I very funny and energetic and never gets his feelings hurt, like one part in the book is that he bought this hat to school and these kids came up to him and stole it and they started to laugh and Zinkof started to laugh. Sometimes I feel bad for him because he doesn't know what to do. If you have ever herd the saying "Be a leader not a follower" he is the follower. I really recommend this book. It is one of my all time favorites!

Book Review: Bullied
Summary: 3 Stars

The story, Loser, is about a kid named Zinkoff gets picked on all through his school years. Zinkoff thinks it's funny if he gets picked on even when it's not funny. He thinks wearing the naughty hat is a privlege. In fifth grade Zinkoff went to look for his friend in the cold blizzard and she was right back home. Her parents found her after ten minutes.Zinkoff was out in the cold for eight hours looking fo their kid. Zinkoff heard sirens but they were looking for him and he didn't know it. I really like the book and would recommend it to anyone. There are lots of lessons that can be learned.

Book Review: Charming but Honest and Real
Summary: 5 Stars

When my 7-year-old daughter asked to get this book at the library, I was at first taken aback. She seems too young for the pre-teen angst the title suggests. Apparently a teacher at school had picked the book and was reading it to the kids, and she wanted to follow along.

I found Zinkoff to be a really likable kid despite his faults. There's certainly nothing wrong with loving school, being excited about life, and not giving up when things get tough. There's a tendency sometimes to portray nerds or 'losers' as relentlessly miserable outcasts, or as being ground down or stifled by jerky kids, but that's not the case with Zinkoff. He certainly has his low moments, but he's still a kid with a good heart who has a family that loves and supports him.

As a once and current geek myself I will say there are moments in the book I can remember from my own past (I would have loved to have skipped Field Day myself), so while it's rather embarrassing I'll go ahead and say this book gets a lot right as far as the life of a socially awkward kid goes.

The book ends on a hopeful note, I think, but not a 'that wraps it up, all problems are solved' note. I can't help but wonder how things turned out for Zinkoff after reading the book, but as a geek myself I know things can get better as life goes on. I was impressed with this book and will read some of Spinelli's other books with my daughter. She also liked the book a lot, so I'm sure she'll want to do that, too.

Book Review: Controversial BUT Awsome
Summary: 5 Stars

Has anyone tried to make you feel like you didn't belong? In this book Lose Has anyone tried to make you feel like you don't belong? In the book Loser by Jerry Spinelli, a little boy is picked on at school. They make him feel like he doesn't belong. His only friends are a glass bear and a glass fox that his mother threw away because they were old and broken. But he took the animals out of the garbage and made friends with them sense he as none at school. His bedroom is his main place where he stays with his animal friends.
This book by Jerry Spinelli is a must read. In this book, Jerry Spinelli expresses how the boy feels when his classmates pick on him. The author also understands how the boy feels and tries to make the readers of his book know how the boy feels too. This book also teaches when bullies pick on other human beings they learn a lesson too. Many of Jerry's books are must-reads. But this one is my favorite for many reasons.
Jerry Spinelli also has a particularly great background too. He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He went to Gettysburg College and went to Hopkins University. In 1991, he won a Newbury Award for Maniac Magee in 1998. Wringer was named the Newbury Honor book. He began writing when he was 16. Book Review: Cornwall Middle School
Summary: 5 Stars

I liked this book called Loser. It was about this kid that never really fit in, and threw out his life from when he was a baby to 6th grade. The characters seemed a little more realistic then the other books i have read. I liked the plot, but i thought they could of done a better job with were it took place and a couple other things. I thought there were some parts that I couldnt wait to find out what happened next. I would recomended this book to anyone that likes funny, good books. I enjoyed reading this book and there were alot of funny parts to it. This is deffinatly a book that they could have a sequeal, like when he starts 7th grade and gets a girlfriend of something.
