Loser

The book Loser is one of those annoying books that either your teacher forces you to read, or you are attracted to it for one weird reason or another. Either way, you'll fall into a pit of doom! This is simply a strange and down right boring read.

The first strange thing that I noticed was that the book was written in third person and present tense. This ugly combo creates something like this: "He walks over to the water fountain and takes a drink." ahem, Boring!!!! I mean come on, who writes a book like that?

No offence to the author. Really, peace on earth. And for that matter I give the author credit for the fact that they wrote the book. And that some parts were sort of interesting. Notice the word some. Anyway I guess that this is just an oppinion thing.

So be sure understand. If you happen to like books about... well... losers who must survive the dark clutches of school.(Yea Right) Then give it a shot. And everyone else, BEWARE!

The End

Book Review: Loser
Summary: 2 Stars

Jerry Spinelli is the author of Loser and he is also the author of the award winning book, Stargirl. The genre of this book is realistic fiction. This story tells the life of a young boy from first to six grades. In this story the young boy isn't athletic and has trouble moving around. He messes up a lot and his flute playing isn't all that great. He never wins anything and he doesn't even realize this. He thinks he is just like any other boy his age but he is different. Sense he doesn't think he is different and hasn't even thought about it much, he is happy with the way he is. His mom had had a baby girl, who was now his little sister. For the most part he liked her.

He hadn't felt like he had much freedom until the day he got a bike. He rode it all around the neighborhood and stopped by to talk to an old lady and a little girl who wore a leash. He often visited the waiting man's house, but didn't talk to him.

He liked school and arrived early most of the time. He sat in the back of the class because his last name starts with a "z". His name is Donald Zinkoff, but most kids called him Zinkoff, until fourth grade Field day. At field day he is relied on to win the final part of a relay race for his team. He lost the race and was called Loser from that day forward. Everyone but his parents thinks he is a loser but he actually loves and cares for everyone except the monster in the basement. He finally realizes he is different in fifth grade. Two years later goes to Jr. High and everyone ignores him until one day he does something heroic to save a little girl.

I thought most of the book was pretty good and I also thought this book was easy to read.

Book Review: Loser
Summary: 3 Stars

I enjoyed this book because the author did a good jobcreating the mood of a lonely kid. He made it clear that Donald was a wierd kid. Spinelli also did a exceptional job on using his imagination.

The first few chaprers were horible. All it talked about was losing and the summer. The worst part was how he refered to the kids as pups.

I think Spinelli did a good job creating the poor, country style setting. You could tell there were'nt many "thugs". He also did a good job on the conflict. You knew Zinkoff wasn't a popular kid and didn't have many friends.

Book Review: Loser
Summary: 3 Stars

This book was a pretty good book. The begining was great and the middle was good. It satisfied me greatly. But the ending was horendous. That is why I gave it 3 stars instead of five.
This is about a boy named Donald who is very hyper and laughs at long words. He gets this award when he graduates into middle school. There is a day called field day wich is a day where they run different races and the team that wins get a trofhy. It's his turn and he has a big lead and if comes in any place but last they win and he blows the lead and they lose. The next day they all call him a Loser. The importance of this book is to see what's inside a person's heart and not on the outside.

Book Review: Loser
Summary: 3 Stars

In my opinion this book was the best ever. I could relate to Donald Zinkoff because he was a genuine person not relying on others validate him. As a teenager we sometimes wait on our friends to make us feel accepted but he didn't. I really enjoyed the book also because it was written about a first grader who goes through some of the same things as a teenager.

I compare this book written by Jerry Spenilli to another that I've read, Stargirl. It is about a young lady who too deals with peer pressure but does not surrender to it. I think that Mr. Spenilli writes very well about books dealing with peer pressure because maybe he dealt with it himself. I really enjoyed reading Stargirl.

I think that this book definitely should be taught and read in schools because young people deal with a lot of peer pressure. Some good and some bad. This book teaches you to think for yourself, be yourself and make wise choices. I think it should be read by young people of all ages.
