Book Reviews of Lost Girls, Vols. 1-3

Book Review: Yeah its Porn.
Summary: 2 Stars

I mean if you want to you call this literature if you want. But Lost Girls is really just an expensive porn comic and the writing isnt any better then anything your find in any exrotic story magazine and as many have said the art isnt all that great either. Alan Moore is a great writer. But this isnt one of his best (aka The Watchmen, V for Vendatta). Now i dont got anything against porn. But really call it for what it is. Plus the idea of taking childhood characters like Alice, Dorothy, & Wendy and turning it into porn really dosnt sit all that good with me. Sure you could say they were stories about sexual exploration. But they where mainly stories about growing up. Overall its not a bad book (if your into this kind of thing). But its just not Moore's best.

Book Review: an instant classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading pretty much everything from Alan Moore, I could not wait to get my hands on this book (or beit to get this book (or better: three books, since it comes in a bookshell)tter: three books, since it comes in a bookshell)
I was not disappointed.
Is it [...] Yes- but there are layers of meaning and a sophisticated use of semiotics that lifts it up way above all those glossy coffee-table
books with "adult content" that you might get offered.
You have never seen the story of Peter Pan told from this point of view, and this beeing Moore, he lets you make your own connections to the original publication.
You will also find very clever use of the styles of erotica from the turn of the 19th century.
In short: If you are looking for a challengin read and to broaden you horizon to what comics can accomplish if they are handled as masterfully as Mr. Moore and Mrs. Gebby
did here- this is you book!
My highest possible recommendation.

Book Review: sexy adult comic's
Summary: 5 Stars

my first brush with an adult comic story. this is a winner, very sexy with a great premise. it takes place at the end of the Victorian era and is full of sexy tributes to that era.
i enjoyed this very much. a collectors item.

Book Review: terrible
Summary: 1 Stars

Being that I love Alan Moore's work I thought I would give this a try. It turned out to be a total waste of my money. His writing in this book is about as important as writing is in any pornographic work. Totally worthless. The focus of the story is the graphic sexuality not the writing. And the artwork isn't even that good, it looks childish especially considering the subject matter. Alan Moore said he wanted to publish this book in part to protest the genre of pornography because it has no standards. But it seems to me that he just embraces that genre. If you really want to view pornography you might as well save your money and buy several pronographic magazines for the same price as Lost Girls. You will get just as much of a story out of it and you will see real people instead of childish looking art.

Book Review: waste of talent? - discuss
Summary: 3 Stars

Well it took a long time to come out, and is a very professional piece of work, but does it actually say anything new; No, because the book is a triumph of style over substance. Yes the writing is very clever in its evocation of early 20th Century erotica, yes the artwork is in several different styles all of whom will mean something to a devotee of this form, yes the package is nicely put together in 3 hardbacked books (even though I am not convinced with the quality of the paper) but to the uninvolved general reader looking to something new from one of the best writers around it does not really produce the goods. Yes it is erotic and arousing in places, but it still feels dry and uninvolved, like someone had given him this exercise to do as homework. The style is a little like a continuation of the last "League" adventure, but spread out over twice as many pages, and it shows, as it drags in places. the artwork takes a little getting used to, and sometimes felt a bit cartoony to me, but in other places is very well realised. The sex is liberally applied, and includes all combinations and all ages, but since we are dealing with little stick people here, it is difficult to care whether they are overage, or related, or the same sex. This is one of the points that Alan Moore is making, but it still does not involve you in the storytelling as much as his recent works with "Top 10" or the first series of the "league". In the end I am sure that it ticks all the boxes he wanted it to, and should be read at least once by any fan wanting to see the spin he can put on three great stories ("Alice", "Peter Pan" and "Oz") but I would rather he was back creating stories of his own, instead of just re-using other peoples characters to rewrite their stories.
