This is truly what a contemporary "horror" should be. Excellent characters and an involving story. Kind of like the film "Near Dark", but darker and better. Ironically, this is the least disturbing of Poppy's novels. Read this one first and if you like it, check out her others.Book Review: Amazing!!!

Lost Souls is a masterpiece of horror. The characters are brutally honest and realistic. At the risk of sounding corny, I felt Ghost, Steve, Nothing,etc. I felt them as if they were standing next to me and I could wrap them around my body and soul. This novel is beautifully written and I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the horror/gothic genre.Book Review: An amazing book to which my review cannot do justice

This book is intense. It is not for people who believe that everyone skips through life, never seeing sex, drugs, or violence. It also can relate to every single person who leads a more mundane life. I was told that Lost Souls was the most amazing book ever written and I had to buy it ASAP, so a few days later, I had $6 and was near a bookstore, so I bought it and sat down in a corner during my lunch break. After the first chapter, I was stunned and hooked. This book is not only about vampires, it's about life. It's not describing how vampires roam around drinking blood, it's about passions and loneliness and how some cope and the horrible things which happen in life. Please forgive the lack of quality of this review, but for anyone who has ever lived and thought, Lost Souls is for them.Book Review: An exquisite read.

The characters were very vibrant and alive. The story was very lush and I love her style of writing. Poppy Z. Brite knows how to write a great vampire story. The interactions and relationships between the characters are well done, very beliveable, and sometimes downright delicious. I enjoyed her scenes of homoeroticism and thought that they were tastefully done. I may be a sucker for vampire stories and sexy 'goth' guys but Poppy Z. Brite goes above and beyond the ordinary. A must read for anyone who's interested in vampires or horror fiction.Book Review: An incredible work of TRUE horror...

There is nothing more petrifying than being able to RELATE to a book entitled LOST SOULS. That was the most frightening aspect of the story. The characters become so real and lifelike that the reader falls in love with them, good or bad. It is difficult not to mourn over the many deaths that occur throughout the story. It is difficult not to cheer when one of the characters makes a magnificent victory. I found myself throwing the book across the room at certain points in the story, screaming obscenities at it as the plight of Ghost and Nothing and Steve ripped apart my insides. Then I was strangely drawn back to it and immediately resumed reading. Upon completion I sat silent for a few moments, unable to do anything but ponder what I had just read. LOST SOULS is the epitomy of true horror. The supernatural characters are not all that supernatural, and still it is incredibly horrifying. Anyone who thinks he/she can stomach it should pick up this book. It is so deliciously terrible you won't be able to put it down.
