Book Reviews of Lost SoulsBook Review: An intriguing explosion of gothic erotica terror + mystery! Summary: 5 Stars
Never in all my years has a book actually gripped me so feircley that I can't blink. Putting this novel down was like lifting a hundred gorified corpses. This book enlightened the sense of my own vampiric passionate mind and soul, as it will yours. Gothicly intriguing. As a Lost Soul there is no better feeling than to discover an author with such an acute sense of "gothic pleasure". Talismanic faces, rainbow-lit streets, crimson rivers, and fervid sex, all of which you can smell because of Ms. Brite
Book Review: An overall good read Summary: 4 Stars
Most reviews seem to be rather mixed on this novel, personally I really enjoyed it. The books story itself had weak moments(the twins) but at the same time the realationship between Ghost and Steve was one of the closest(and yes hetero) I have ever read about. Zillah and his crew were weak characters but Nothing really was an intruiging and well written character. One problem I had was that Nothing did not have as much time to "bond" with Ghost. This is a great rainy-afternoon-read, I also think that at would translate into a very interesting film.
Book Review: An unexpected driving force Summary: 2 Stars
Although Ms. Brite redefines the vampire lore in her own unique way, this book seems to be carried from start to finish by the twisted nature of the relationship between it's characters. A quality read must include characters that you can identify with. Personally, I found it hard to relate myself to a culture of incestuousness and rampant homosexuality. Not to say that Vampires have to play by the rules of normal society, but this book leaves not a single character untouched by it's sicked amoral bite. I was expecting something along the lines of the film "Near Dark". Unfortunatly this book is nothing of the sort. My recommendation is that for quality vampire reading, stick to Ann Rice. Sweet dreams princess.
Book Review: Angels Are Bright Still, Though The Darkest Fell. Summary: 5 Stars
I love each of the books that I buy, and take particular care of them. It is no small compliment, therefore, to say that I have read Lost Souls so many times that the front cover has fallen off. Thanks to Ms Brite's sensuous, delicious descriptions, I confess that I am in love with Christian, Zillah and Ghost. She reveals a world that few are priviledged to know, yet it appears to be written from experience, and from the heart. I can identify the characters she describes amongst my friends - I have my own particular Christian and Nothing and Laine in real life. The atmosphere, the lifestyle, the passion, the love of the New Orleans Night-life is as real to me as I absorb her words, as the smell of dry-ice smoke, kohl, black lace and dust in every alternative club anywhere. Immerse yourself in her language, surrender to it. You will find yourself reading about things that you barely allowed to enter your deams.
Book Review: Anne Rice watch out!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The characters in this book are so real, that if you go to the French Quarter in New Orleans you find yourself looking for Christians bar. And how wonderful it would be if they really existed. I can see us walking down The Village smoking clove cigarettes, howling at the moon while drinking Chartruese & feeding on those who cross our path. But I do believe that they exist... in us. We are those people you cross the street to avoid because we have the balls to be "different". Sometimes we all feel like Nothing. Like there's no place where we belong but, then you read a book like this & you realize that their are more Lost Souls walking the earth just like you.
