Book Review: Lottery is a book for all Summary: 5 Stars
Having worked within the school system with many wonderful young "Perry's" to be, I felt like I was with a good friend throughout this book. Patrica Wood had me at the first paragraph. Yes, I stayed up late to finish this book, as all the characters came alive for me. Truly a wonderful read. We can all learn how to better listen to the world around us after meeting Perry, Gram and all their good friends.
Book Review: Making the complex simple and being content - great life lesssons! Summary: 4 Stars
I found lottery to be a light read with deep meaning. Perry was 'slow' but genious at the same time. He may have lacked reasoning but his wisdom to take the complex and make it simple was inspiring. My husband and I did not win the lottery but experienced a very similar windfall. I found Perry's struggle after winning the lottery very realistic. Just like Perry my husband and I have wondered who we could trust, what people's motives where, and who we should help. The best part of the book, in my opinion, is in the end Perry decides to be content with his life, something I think us 'fast' people struggle with.
Book Review: Much more than I expected Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this book in the bargain bin at a local bookshop. With a price under $5, I have to be honest - I didn't expect much. Lottery surprised me in many ways. The simplistic writing and short chapters draw you in, making you want to read 'just one more chapter' before putting it down. I read this book in just a couple days. Partly beause it was easy to read, but also because it made me want to keep reading. Sure, it was deliberately endearing, but what else do you expect from a book about a disabled man winning the lottery? This was a great book - I really enjoyed it.
Book Review: My best summer read Summary: 5 Stars
Patricia Wood has written my favorite summer read. Big boys don't cry, but I had tears in my eyes quite often although I was often laughing through the tears. LOTTERY pulled me in and kept me awake until 4 in the morning. However, I went to bed feeling better than I have in a long time. Perry is a delightful character who shows us that real family isn't always those you're related to. Although his relatives are sharks and wolves, Perry is blessed with good friends who care about him as a man, instead of just a sucker with money. I could not ask for more from a novel than LOTTERY provided. It's a wonderful, heartwarming story. Thank you, Patricia. Aloha.
