Book Reviews of Love Walked In

Book Review: Fresh
Summary: 3 Stars

I enjoyed this book as some light summer reading (even though it takes place in the winter). The characters were likeable and the writing is fresh--sprinkled with literary and cinematic references. And I appreciated that finally a 30-something living a fairly self-involved existence learns to truly love someone else.

Book Review: Fun Writing Style
Summary: 3 Stars

When, exactly did love walk into the cafe and find Cornelia? Who was that love? Was it the day Cary Grant handsome Martin walked in and fell quickly in love with Cornelia? Was it the day eleven year old Clare came in with him, her mother gone, her father reluctant and distant. Clare burst immediately into tears that day and Cornelia's mothering instinct kicks into high gear.

Before long Martin's obvious lack of concern over Clare takes the shine away from Cornelia's prince charming. She begins to question her feelings for him but her feelings for Clare are unmistakable and strong. She is the safe place Clare needs to be after hiding her mother's eccentricities and illness for so long.

Another person figures into their lives, Teo, handsome childhood friend of Cornelia's shows up sans his wife, Cornelia's sister Ollie. Only in books it seems, can life twist and turn so quickly but rest assured, a happy ending is in store here.

Book Review: Good Quick Read
Summary: 4 Stars

Although the story deals with a difficult family situation, it is a quick light read. You instantly fall in love with the characters and just want the best for all of them.

Book Review: Good book with one huge problem
Summary: 4 Stars

Love Walked In was a beautiful book. I loved Clare and Cornelia's relationship - they were well-defined characters - and I always love a good ending. Ms. De Los Santos ending was practical, though I would have loved to have seen Clare end up with Cornelia and Teo. I realize that's unrealistic, though.

My only problem with this almost perfect book is the disrespect she has for God. I couldn't stand when Ms. De Los Santos used God and Jesus' names disrespectfully - that really bothered me and it was so unnecessary. Love Walked In will never be a classic because the author, for no reason, trashed a few of the pages. Most of us in the world love God, Jesus and the Holy Spirt and we count our blessings. Ms. De Los Santos has received the gift of writing and she should be thankful instead of degrading the One Who gave her this gift.

Book Review: Good plot points, not so much for the characters
Summary: 3 Stars

I liked this book, but I wanted more from it. The characters felt... plastic? At times my heart just screamed for them and the situations they were in, but the characters themselves... it was an odd read for me in that respect. The writing and the situations were wonderful, but the characters felt hollow and, well, made up. Yes, it's a fiction book, but I like to forget that while I'm reading.

It's definitely worth a read and might make a good Summer read for a book club. There was a lot of different issues you could talk about, just ignore the characters - they needed something more...
