Book Reviews of Love in the Time of Cholera (Oprah's Book Club)Book Review: A great book if you're travelling on a long journey. Summary: 4 StarsI was given this book to read whilst I undertook a three day train journey from Sydney to Perth. It is such an amazing story about the love between two people in a Latin America fraught with turmoil and deep emotion. It is a masterpiece of passion, sincerity and the importance of family values. Gabriel Garcia Marquez can be difficult to follow in some ways, but this novel had me overwhelmed with excitement from the first page to the last.
Book Review: An encyclopaedia about love Summary: 5 StarsThis is another masterful work by Marquez in which he explores all the facets of love in his usual casual but perceptive style. I was so overcome by the beauty this book contains especially in the early and latter stages and also by the heartache and suffering that runs concurrently to this, thus conveying the very depths of loving but not realising that love. I rate this up with One Hundred Years of Solitude as his best work.
Book Review: If you never read anything else, read this. Summary: 5 StarsThis is an exotic, fatalistic love story with prose so poetic it makes you want to learn Spanish and read the book in its original language. It's as well-written as 100 Years of Solitude but with a smaller (not to mention less confusing) cast that allows the author to explore character in greater detail. Writing doesn't get any better than this.
Book Review: A great book from a great author Summary: 5 StarsThis was the first book of Gabriel Garcia Marques I read and I fell in love with the author's style. The story was captivating as well as the excentricity of the characters. I read 100 years of solitude just after, it is a very good book as well but the story is much more complex. I would recommend love in the time of cholera as an introduction to Gabriel Garcia Marques who is an author worth reading!
Book Review: I did not like this book. Summary: 1 StarsLove in the Time of Cholera was extremely boring. I wanted to fall asleep. The author should have made it go a little faster,to keep the reader's, my attention.
