Book Reviews of Love in the Time of Cholera (Oprah's Book Club)Book Review: Beautiful and absorbing book. Summary: 5 StarsBeautifully written and deeply moving. I highly recommend this very absorbing book!
Book Review: Beautiful. Summary: 5 StarsFrom the opening lines "It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love" (which I cannot forget), I was enchanted, moved and bowled over by the strength of story-telling. Marquez keeps with the rich and emotive Latin tradition of narration. I loved this book and therefore whole-heartedly recommend it.
Book Review: Unbelievably emotional book - highly recommended Summary: 5 StarsI read this last week while on holiday. Had to keep my girlfriend from stealing the book. I had given up on 100 Years of Solitude, but after this book I should give it another go. This is unmissable
Book Review: disappointing Summary: 2 StarsI read this book after reading the author's excellent "100 years of solitude" but I found it disappointing, possibly due to high expectations. There was not enough to keep me interested/amused, and I could not care less for the characters' fate. I kept waiting for something significant to happen, but it did not. Having said that, most people I know really enjoyed this book.
Book Review: An utterly wonderful and charming novel Summary: 5 StarsThis is easily one of the most wonderful and captivating novels I have ever read. It is far more accessible and rewarding than 100 Years of Solitude as well as riotously funny but no less brililant. When it is at its most wonderful, the prose literally drips of the page like honey! This should defintely be the first novel you read by Marquez, certainly before 100 Years Of Solitude which is similarly brilliant but more extreme in its construction and consequently a far more challenging a read.
