Book Review: She made Andy too perfect
Summary: 3 Stars

I've enjoyed Giffin's books and admittedly, finished this in a matter of hours all the while ignoring my boyfriend and even sneaking in a few pages at work on my lunch break.

I agree that Giffin creates some interesting and thoughtful characters, including Ellen, Margot, and Leo. I thought Andy's character was a bit one-dimensional and wonder if that was intentional so that we would be in suspense about 'who will she choose'? until the last chapter.

I liked how Ellen felt around Leo. For that reason I felt ripped-off at the end of the book. The last scene turned into some random Mr. Big and Carrie drama that made me frustrated. I agree with the final sentences in the book, sure - but - come on Giffin - Andy's character and his life was a bit ridiculous and perfect. What about the other women out there who are trying to choose between a Leo and a modified version of Andy (i.e. minus the tennis club membership, fancy house, cut body, and likeable character?). To add to that, Andy was always so understanding and always said the right things -- most men I know have a defensive-gene in their body that makes arguing so unproductive.

Thanks though for the fun read. I love getting caught up in your books.

Book Review: Has Emily Giffin been spying on my life???
Summary: 4 Stars

While I completely identified with Ellen in this book and love love loved it!!! (Spent an entire Saturday glued to the pages) It wasn't my favorite book by her yet... The others made me laugh and cry out loud!
However, you can't go wrong with a book by Emily giffin! The way she writes her characters makes you feel as though they are your best friends by the end of the book and you never want the book to end!

Book Review: Giffin is a great storyteller
Summary: 4 Stars

Emily Giffin is what I would call "smart chick lit." She's more cerebral than most authors of this genre and she creates a level of tension that has you gripped until the end. This book is like her other efforts, it's beautifully written, it makes you cry, and you identify with the characters. How many of us have dated that "bad boy" that was oh so bad for us, but that we can't seen to forget, long after we've married other people and have that nice home in the suburbs? The only reason why I didn't give this book five stars is I didn't like the ending. I wish Giffin had gone in the other direction. It's almost like she couldn't make up her mind how to end the book and the result seemed a bit rushed and contrived. However, I can't wait to read her next effort!

Book Review: If you love her previous books, you'll also love this one!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was so excited about Emily Giffin's new book that I had to preorder it! And after reading it in less than a week, I was convinced that this writer has something truly special in this book. It certainly is not a cookie-cutter book that wraps up nicely in a bow; but rather an insightful read that makes you think about your own life and the choices that have led up to where you are now. I truly enjoyed "Love the One You're With" and will anxiously await her next novel.

Book Review: Compelling Read
Summary: 5 Stars

This is another solid book from a writer who is able to completely grasp human emotion and then write those emotions into a wonderful story. This is the story of Ellen, Andy, and Leo, and the choices that Ellen made/makes in her life in regards to the two men. Ellen has a fairy-tale romance with Andy, a husband who adores her and treats her like a princess; he has a loving and inclusive family and a substantially rich lifestyle in comparison to Ellen. Leo, by contrast is the brooding artist with a burning passion for Ellen. They separated years ago but, when he makes his way back into her life will he also make his way back into her heart? That is the question posed throughout the book and, while not spoiling anything, I will say that watching Ellen self-destruct her life with Andy is heartbreaking. I really started to hate her and the choices she was making, especially since her life with Andy was perfect. Ellen questions everything in her life, and turns completely ungrateful when Leo returns; she puts her entire life on the line to determine whether it's Andy or Leo who is 'the one.' The story is somewhat familiar because many women, and men, pine for a long-lost love and often wonder 'what if.' It's a compelling story and quality writing, and the type of book that makes you want to cheat and turn to the last page to find out what happens.
