Book Reviews of Love the One You're WithBook Review: Not as good as the others Summary: 3 StarsI loved all of Giffin's 1st 3 books, as they were my intro into "chick-lit". With each of the 1st 3 I was sad to see them end, so I also anxiously awaited this new release. I'm halfway through this one, and it is not as good as the other 3. It is still pretty good, but just relatively speaking it is not as compelling a read as the other 3. I had purchased it, but my library reserve copy was ready the same day, so i took the purhased copy back to B&N. I'm glad I did now. It's a great read for a library book.
Book Review: So-So Summary: 3 StarsI was looking forward to getting sucked into another book by Emily Giffin. Couldn't wait for it to come out, since I enjoyed Baby Proof, Something Borrowed, & Something Blue. I loved the characters in her first 3 books, Ellen I didn't care for. I couldn't root for her at all. To think Leo would just not look for Ellen after his confrontation with Margot, was just the turning point of the book that had me going, "Come on!". Not thrilled at all, hope the next one is better.
Book Review: Loved the story line Summary: 4 StarsI really really love the idea of the story, the plot and the characters. I absolutely love her style of writing, her sense of humor and everything about her books!! I read the book extremely fast but can't give it 5 stars, I can't put my finger on why I didn't LOVE it but I just didn't :( I would definitely recommend it to anyone still, and I love her books so much more then any other authors!
Book Review: Ehh...... Summary: 2 StarsI'm really surprised by the many four star reviews for this book. I really enjoyed the first two books, the third was ok but this was just not that good. The character of Ellen just wasn't intriguing because frankly, she needed to get a grip and just grow up already. She behaved like an arrested adolescent, she wasn't in love with Leo so much as she was in love with the drama Leo came with. All the characters in the book were one dimensiona charicatures of themselves: the good guy, the bad guy, the unsnobby rich, southern belle, the dignified southern doyenne, the working class slightly resentful sister. BORING, BORING, BORING. There was not an ounce of humor in the book. Nothing seemed to excite Ellen except the prospect of reliving her soap opera life with Leo. I'm sorry, I really like the author but this just wasn't that good.
Book Review: Another good one from Emily Giffin Summary: 4 StarsIt sounds like I'm with the rest of the reviewers here. I picked this book off my bookshelf yesterday early afternoon and was done about 12 hours later. I got sucked in and couldn't go to bed until I was done. The only real critism is that I just couldn't picture Ellen as an Ellen. There was something about her that didn't fit her name. I don't know what it was, but everytime someone called her by name, I couldn't help thinking, "that's not her name!" But other than that, this book made me think about "the one that got away" and what my life would be like if we had stayed together. I just wish that Ellen hadn't been so consumed with Leo, but I guess it's just human nature to kind of revert to our old ways when someone from our past shows up. All in all, a good book. I'd say it was worth the wait and didn't drive me as crazy as Baby Proof did. But that's what a good author does - manages to lure you in and experience all kinds of emotions. Looking forward to her next one already.
