Book Reviews of Lucia, Lucia: A NovelBook Review: Another Wonderful Story! Summary: 5 Stars
I have really come to love Adriana Trigiani. I've read four of her books now and have never been disappointed. I found the first chapter a little stalled, but after that I was definitely hooked. I highly recommend this book to anyone that would like to escape for a while!
Book Review: Be Transported Back to the 50s Summary: 4 Stars
This heartfelt story follows the life of Lucia, a young woman who grew up in New York in the 1950s. We learn about her life as a young woman dealing with stereotypes and her battles against them. The novel starts with Lucia, present day, talking with another tenant in the apartment building she currently resides in. We are then taken back to the 1950s, when life for a woman was much more difficult than it is today. Take the journey with Lucia as she deals with life, death and loss. A wonderful read, if you're looking for something to touch you deeply and make you feel young again.
Book Review: Bellissimo! Summary: 4 Stars
Kit lives in an apartment building in modern day NY with her neighbor, the slightly eccentric 70-year-old Aunt Lu, who is always draped in mink. One afternoon they have tea together, and Aunt Lu proceeds to regale the curious Kit with her life story. Lu is the Lucia of the title; a beautiful 25 year old Italian-American feminist in 1950, an age where feminism was unheard of and good Italian girls did as they were told. Lucia is pursued by Dante, who expects her to give up her job as a seamstress in the couture department of the swanky B. Altman's department store as soon as they are married. But Lucia wants more out of life than being a baker's wife, she has her own ambitions. Then she falls for John Talbot, a suave uptown businessman who sweeps her off her feet and adorns her in that infamous mink, but things don't work out exactly as Lucia planned. This novel is peopled with wonderful characters and offers a fascinating glimpse into the gentile world of Italian-American Catholic 1950's values and culture that has long since faded away.
Book Review: Best Book I've Read In A Long Time Summary: 5 Stars
This was the first time I have read a book by Ms. Trigiani and I know that I will read her other three. The characters were intriguing, well developed and each possessed a unique personality. The story line was not only thought provoking but contained twists and turns that you could not easily see until they were upon you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has loved, lost and moved on.
Book Review: Bittersweet moments Summary: 4 Stars
I work in a bookshop so I was given an advance copy and I started reading it one afternoon without much thought. But it held my attention my entire afternoon and I finished it that evening. It is truly a sad story at times, showing how one's choices, (some incredibly simple) can dictate so much of a person's life. The title character, Lucia is an incredibly headstrong and independent person. Quickly she finds herself wanting more than life initially is offering and takes off in a new direction. She experiences anguish, but in the end she finds she is much stronger then she thought. The characters were endearing and all equally complicated. No one is truly awful, including the person who hurt Lucia the most. It is a fine example of the frailty of humans and how often people who love you the most, can equally hurt you the most.
