Book Review: An uplifting account of this great mans personal battle

The first thing to be said about this great book, is that it is not so much about Michael J. Fox the actor, more Michael J. Fox the 'man'. Written well and beautifully crafted, beginning with his early childhood, then throughout the limelight years, to the present day, you learn how he lived the life of a celebrity, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and how he managed to deal with the symptoms and finally how he came to terms with it. It's nice to read that even though he has this neurological disorder, how he can be so upbeat. In the first chapters of the book, at first you discover that his diagnosis led to denial (which in terms led to its own problems) then anger, and after this, acceptance, and it was then that he found he began to appreciate life much more, and perhaps you could say, a reverse to what you would expect, would rather be the person he is today then the person he was throughout, what he calls, the 'magical' years. Gone were the days of living the 'high' life, he was just living his life how he wanted. He talks lovingly about his family, how they supported him throughout, and why he eventually decided to tell the world of his condition. Having been a fan of his from when I first saw Back to the Future, it was a delight to read more about him, and I think many people who read it, won't be able to turn the final pages and not feel inspired that personal battles can be overcome, and in Michael's case, leave you feeling lucky.
