I liked this book for the first 100 pages--though they were all about wedding preparations, with some cultural and family history. But then my attention started to wane. The next 200 pages were so "subtle" (enigmatic? esoteric?) that perhaps I missed the point in my struggle to keep reading. The story seemed to slow to nearly a stop, and I got bored. I didn't particularly care about Layla, Sameer or her family. Perhaps if I knew more about Indian culture, this book would have held my interest.
It's worth a read anyway, because parts of it are interesting.
I enjoyed "The Village Bride of Beverly Hills" by Kavita Daswani much more.
