Book Reviews of Make Money Teaching Online: How to Land Your First Academic Job, Build Credibility, and Earn a Six-Figure SalaryBook Review: An incredible tool for future teachers. Summary: 5 StarsI am currently an interventional cardiologist and am working on my PhD in Business. My goal is to eventually teach at the collegiate level as I approach retirement from medicine. I found this book to be a very valuable resource as I approach this new frontier.
The book is comprehensive, easy to understand, and gives substantial insight to the online teaching profession, no matter what your specialty might be.
I highly recommend the book to anyone considering an online teaching career. Bravo to Babb and Mirabella!

Book Review: A MUST READ BOOK!!! Summary: 5 StarsI have attempted to break into the world of online teaching for approximately two years. Dr. Mirabella's and Dr. Babb's advice of earning a terminal degree was certainly helpful information. However, tools on how to make contacts, interview, what to expect, and how to manage the entire process of acquiring online work were the most valuable pieces for me personally. I was not prepared to earn the levels of discretionary income after only 7 months of graduating!!! What I have come to realize is that I have the ability to double my daytime salary on a part-time basis by teaching online!!! This book has definitely changed my life, and specifically my way of thinking. READ THIS BOOK!!!!
Book Review: Make Money Teaching Online: How to Land Your First Academic Job, Build Credibility, and Earn a Six-Figure Salary Summary: 5 StarsI received my book on Thursday, February 22, 2007 and read it cover to cover by Saturday, February 24, 2007. It is very informative and a quick read with outstanding references. It provides the basic step-by-step process of what you need to do to get your first teaching job and how to maintain it once you get it. I like the fact that it was not one of those glossy motivational books, but one that gave practical advice on how to prepare to teach online.
Book Review: Practical Valuable Information--First In Its Class Summary: 5 StarsDr. Babb and Dr. Mirabella are on the forefront of a tipping point in adult education. Online universities excel at providing advance education to adults wishing to change careers, make themselves more valuable to their existing employer, or acquire new knowledge for personal fulfillment. In the next few years we will see more qualified instructors needed, not fewer, to meet the growing needs of adult learners. Until now, there has been no single place to find help when seeking an online teaching job or career.
"Make Money Teaching Online" provides valuable no-nonsense information that has been tested through extensive experience of the authors and their colleagues. It provides a roadmap for would-be teachers including: how to prepare yourself to be an on-line teacher, beginning the job hunt, understanding the interview process, managing your time, knowing the technologies vital to success and expanding your career in online teaching.
The online teaching environment is competitive and it is difficult to find a job. If you have the qualities and credentials to be a good instructor, then this book will help you find your place in the online world of education. It has already helped me with my first job as an online teacher.
Book Review: A review from one of Dr. Mirabella's students Summary: 5 StarsThis review is written from the vantage point of one of Dr. Mirabella's students - two different stats courses with him through Capella University's Ph.D. program.
The book is completely reflective of how Dr. Mirabella successfully approaches his objective of ensuring a high quality learning experience for his students. It is practical and comprehensive, using an understandable and conversational tone to help would-be instructors in a way that is like having a job coach/mentor at the ready through every step of the process. This book takes the view that with the increasing popularity of on-line education, there is plenty of work for those who seek it. It is in this spirit that it provides practical wisdom on everything from the personal decision to seek a teaching position to the implications of organizational politics and the importance of one's attitude.
While teaching on-line may not be for everyone, this book is a highly recommended "must read" for anyone considering it as a whole or partial career move.
