My favorite children's book is Make Way For Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. This is my favorite children's book because it had adventure and plot. Not many children's books have a good plot with also remaining simple enough for young readers. Small children get engaged in this story right away and wonder where Mr. and Mrs. Mallard are going to live now that Mrs. Mallard is going to lay her eggs soon! They finally find the right place to live and Mrs. Mallard has her ducklings! Now they go on an adventure to travel to the Boston Commons. They will meet a few friendly characters along the way, but are determined to make it to the Boston Commons without any distractions. I liked how they made the characters young so the younger readers would be interested in the book. I know I was. I would definitely recommend this book to a very young person seeking a good heart felt story!

What a great book! What's funny is that when I read this as a child, I didn't like it because of the illustrations - they're not in color. The renderings are done in brown pencil which was something I didn't care for as a child. However, now that I've rebought it for my child, I realize what a great story this is! We just love it in our house - seeing Mr. and Mrs. Mallard trying to find just the right home to have their children. It's just so very cute watching the little ducklings cross the street with the policemen helping them. My little one asks to read this book almost nightly. It's very well done and a classic, no doubt there. Highly recommend!Book Review: A must-have!

My 5-year old son really enjoyed this book. His favorite parts were "the way they took care of the babies [ducklings] and the way the got fed peanuts" [by the people in the swan boats]. Of course, you can't go wrong with a Caldecott Award book.Book Review: Timeless Classic

This is a wonderful, timeless children's tale. The story is engaging, the art is delightful. I loved this book when I was small, and I give it constantly to all of the children in my life. Every parent who knew the book growing up is delighted to see it again, and the parents who are discovering it for the first time all enjoy it. I like this book because when they were crossing the street, there was lots of noise. It was fun reading this book. It taught me something: take good care of the ducklings. The thing that I did not like was the names of the ducklings and the mom,dad. I like how they drew the pictures. I like how they wrote this book.
