Book Reviews of Making Faces

Book Review: A wonderful book
Summary: 5 Stars

Kevyn is an extremely talented make-up artist who gives great tips on how to apply make-up and the right tools to use.I learned a lot of good tips which I use daily.

Book Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

I doubt there will ever be someone as good as Kevyn. He was one of a kind who worked magic. Do you think Cher or Julia would trust their make up to just anyone? The photos in here are brilliant and his talent shows through with each and every page. You can learn some tricks by reading this, but even if you think you do a good enough job on your face yourself, this is worth buying if only to see some of his work. A true talent that is really missed.

Book Review: Amazing Artist
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw these books when I was going to Elite Cosmetology School. I have since hoped to further my career with makeup and remembered the tips and advice in his books. I have since purchased "Face Forward". I would recommend to anyone. Even though a lot of the tips are very basic. the pictures and personal stories are what really drew me in to these books. Kevyn was an amazing artist.

Book Review: Amazing talent
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this book for my wife who works in a salon. But I find myself entertained by it too! Kevin is a fantastic makeup artist (which is obvious when you first open the book). I think anyone in the fashion/beauty industry should see this book. The book has makeup tips and tricks and plenty of beautiful pictures of celebs and normal people made to look like models, goddesses, and celebs from the past. A gorgeous book to own!

Book Review: An Excellent Artistic Reference
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this book to use as a reference - and it's proven to be a very good one. I am a Computer Animator and Artist by profession, and I use the information in the book when painting texture maps for characters.

The book is well laid out, and there are clear step-by-step instructions on how to acheive certain "looks." There isn't any in-depth discussion of color in the traditional sense, and I believe this is because Mr.Aucoin believes in experimentation - that there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to makeup (which makes sense). The book has a lot of "before and after" images (which can be almost frightening in the level of transformations accomplished by Mr.Aucoin - i.e. from "plain" to simply "stunning" - fellas, be sure to get that girl into a pool at some point...;). The book has a very personable feel to it, and it's obvious that Mr.Aucoin truly likes people and helping them feel good about themselves - and he is obviously *very* good at it.

The only thing I wish the book had that it doesn't would be some hi-res, evenly lit before-and-after portraits of the subjects (along with the dramatically lit ones). That would have easily made this a 5-star book to me.

All-in-all, an outstanding book.
