Book Reviews of Making Faces

Book Review: Wonderful, fantastic book
Summary: 5 Stars

What first caught my eye about Kevyn's book was the beautiful pictures. Normally recognizeable, familiar faces were transformed into beautiful stars from the past. Kevyn is a real artist, and in addition to catching my eye with the unique photos in the book, he has me thoroughly hooked on makeup! I found the little hints in his book very informative, and the easy to follow instructions on how to duplicate the looks extremely interesting. Kevyn has produced a beautiful book that I have shared with my family and all of my friends. We all enjoyed the book very much-especially the fantasies that we were able to create with his tips!

Book Review: The Best Close-Up Facial Photography I've Ever Seen
Summary: 5 Stars

I've reviewed a number of books on the art of make-up. Without a doubt, this is the BEST! The wonderful photos allow the reader to really apply his ideas while comparing your results with the "end product." If you enjoy the art and magic of make-up don't pass this one up!

Book Review: Throughly entertaining *and* informative!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to say that this book is absoulutley wonderful! Kevin Aucoin is a genius! Wether or not you own his first book you'll enjoy this book and find it very useful. From the amazing before and after shots and glamour photography to the detailed step-by-step instructions it's a must have for anyone who's looking for makup help or a fashion photography adict (like me) either way.. this isn't something you can pass up.. run out and grab yourself a copy ASAP! P.S. to Reader from San Diego, California, the pictures he used in his book, while they *were* origionally part of fashion narritives for Allure etc. all the looks were created by Kevin himself and not just pilfered from a magazine for our entertainment.

Book Review: an apology of estehics
Summary: 5 Stars

Aucoin did it again!Any fashion-addict has dreamt about a new book of his to be offered to public enjoyment and that's why we, the worshippers of beauty in all its forms and shapes, have to celebrate this great moment in the history of the arts of make-up, photography and fashion. Thank you Kevyn to let us join the supernatural world of magic.

Book Review: If you already have his Art of Makeup book--don't need this
Summary: 4 Stars

Basically, a fair to good book full of valuable information about different makeup "looks." His techniques, which he shows how to do only moderately well, cover the range from "the gamine," "the glamour girl," "the innocent," all the way to...you guessed it..."normal, everyday" people. While this would be a helpful book for someone already armed with a little bit of makeup know-how, I don't think it would be especially enlightening for someone who isn't. Anyone who looks with a critical eye at fashion magazines can probably figure out what makeup he or she would need to create these looks. And basically, Aucion has taken most of the photographs in the books from photo shoots from magazines (I've seen a lot of the same pictures in _Allure_ magazine, etc.). Still, this is a good basic book if you're a makeup junkie, but not that much different from his "Art of Makeup" book. If you bought that one, you probably don't need this one. Although if you asked me which one I prefer, I would say "Making Faces."
