Book Review: Great Book For the Novice Cake Decorator

I have always been interested in cake decorating since my mom made fun and elaborate cakes for each of my (and my 6 brother and sisters) birthdays. Just recently I have started trying to make more elaborate cakes than just filled and buttercreamed cakes. So when I saw Making Great Cakes in the discount section of a book store I decided to get it! I was a little taken aback when I realized it was published in Britain but they had 3 sets of measurements to account for all different countries it is sold in (something Im sure not many American cookbooks have!) and very good recipes and techniques.
Now, given, a lot of these cakes LOOK more homemade than my other cake decorating books (like MY bible, Martha Stuart's Wedding Cakes where everything looks absolutely immaculate) but I have to be honest with myself, it is more reasonable for me to start with the cakes from this book than Martha's!
That said, I prefer my tried and true recipes for some things (like my Italian or French buttercream recipes to the rather American buttercream recipe they have in there) but I was happy to see a recipe for sugar paste (fondant) and royal icing and well as the recipes for fruit cakes and all others in here.
It is an amazing book for the price and perfect for me, The Novice Cake Decorator!
