Book Reviews of Man-Made UFOs: WWII's Secret Legacy

Book Review: It depends on what you expect
Summary: 3 Stars

After reading an article about Antarctica and Nazi activity in relation to UFO's, I was quite interested and did some research, so when I saw an add for this book I had to have it.

Admittedly in my research I missed or glossed over the possibility that some UFO's were of a more recent man-made origin. So when I found this book I thought it would be a great read, and would fill me in on some aspects I might have overlooked. However there was precious little in this regard.
When it arrived I thought I had found a great book...full of pictures and HUGE! I could hardly wait to read it. We both agree that UFO's are of human origin. However he so quickly dismisses the theory that some of them are of ancient origin that I have to think he has not looked in depth into this angle, and probably dismisses them so quickly to shortcut a bias of the readers to his opinion. (I traced them back to pre-Sumerian origin) He completely ignores any weird looking UFO pilots, which would indicate ancient technological genetic tinkering, something completely beyond the Nazis of the period thus further indicating ancient origins and technology. This is not to say his direction is incorrect, but I think he has dismissed out of hand some key evidence in pursuit of his bias; rather then encouraging further reading in a second direction, thus he "blew up a bridge".

I was quite frustrated with how little hard evidence or even interviews with people that encountered these things there was. I would have expected a series of UFO reports that had curious details in the stories to foster a suspicion in the reader's mind to conclude the same thing as the authors did. And since there was such a focus on the possible Nazi origins of UFO's I would have expected some UFO sightings that would confirm the Nazi connection, but few, if any, such stories appeared. Oh sure it starts out with a bunch of UFO stories, but considering the title of the book I would have expected the choice of stories to clearly lead the reader to believe there was something very right about his intended direction. If they feel these stories did do this...then it certainly wasn't obvious.
He does indicates the first series of sightings in June 1947 might be of Canadian origin, but then launches on some speculative reasoning, that, though well thought out, did little to convince me he was on the right track. For example not a single Canadian UFO sighting that might confirm his reasoning was forthcoming.

I have to think that a person convinced UFO's were of "Extraterrestrial" origin, would not be swayed too much to their opinion by this work. This is sad because I was rooting for them to do so. There were a couple hopeful blips, but little else that made me certain he was on the right track. It was principally an analysis of Nazi German secret weapons, and few seemed obviously related to UFO's., though admittedly there were some good tidbits, they were just few and far between. A better title might be something like "Secret Nazi Weaponry" or some such thing, as more then half the book was devoted to this angle.
Furthermore, though the research was indeed in depth, it was more something an aerospace technician might appreciate as he did little to expound his research findings into understandable layman's terms. However if you are indeed someone well aquainted with aerospace technology this might be a pretty good read.In my research I found that Germany was also working on a V6 and V7 yet there was not a single mention of these.

There were many pictures but few seemed to distinctly indicate man made origins other than supposing that they must be. In fact some pictures almost seemed like padding and little or no correlation between the pictures and the text was attempted. Not to say the pictures weren't interesting, they just seemed a bit removed from the apparent direction of the book.

I was particularly disappointed because though the add mentioned the Antarctic Nazi UFO connection, this aspect was almost completely ignored in the book. For instance there was no cooberation with say South African witnesses as to any heavy activity in that area in 1938-39 or later when a Antarctic fortress might have been built. Nor was there any expounding how some UFO's may be of Antarctic origins, other than maybe a brief mention. In fact he seems to lead us away from this with an Argentine angle.

Obviously part of his reasoning was that some UFO's were of Nazi origin. Yet he never actually related any of the sightings where UFO's appeared to be piloted by Nazi German accented pilots, nor did he relate any stories where some UFO's had been seen with typical nazi markings such as the iron cross. Though I do vaguely remember reading such stories, he seemed to assume we were well aquainted with this aspect. Even if we were, certainly some recounting of these incidences would still have been timely and welcome.

I have to admit though, that after reading this book and then reading another UFO book, I started to look for and find evidence that confirms Vesco's and Childress' suspicions. It's just unfortunate I wasn't finding these things in the book that was supposed to be promoting this aspect of UFOlogy.
