Book Review: A Cute Bilingual Story

Marco Flamenco lives in a tropical paradise, but for him the most exotic place in the world is up north where the snowbirds migrate from. Finally, he resolves to go up north and see what winter is all about. When he gets there, he finds he has surprising company.
The story is fairly simple, and frankly a little repetitive with respect to Marco's curiosity about winter. But the illustrations are well done, with the lushness of the tropics and the layering of windblown snows both well captured. It seems better suited to being read aloud to younger children as the pictures are shown than for the use of a young reader. In this regard, the repetitiveness becomes a feature, reinforcing the Spanish or English as it's being read.
If you are a parent or teacher looking for a simple story to read while introducing English to Spanish speakers (or vice-versa), this is a nice book for first or second graders. If you are looking for a bilingual story for a young reader, I'd go for a story more explicitly directed at vocabulary acquisition.
