Book Review: Perfection!
Summary: 5 Stars
When I purchased this trio of Marguerite Henry books, I was both pleased and worried. I was pleased because I had just purchased three books that I absolutely loved when I was a kid. However, I was worried that the same books would not enchant me in the same manner as an adult. I need not have been concerned that I would not have enjoyed these books. I loved them. The Beebe family were just as intriguing and bizarre as they were to me as a child. The illustrations were perfect - I studied them with the same fascination. Grandpa Beebe was just as freaky looking with his oddly gaping maw.
Reading these books as a feminist adult gave me a slightly different perspective regarding Maureen and Paul's relationship. He certainly is a bossy boots. Maureen's line, "Grandma, sometimes I hate being a girl." meant more to me as an adult than as a 6 year old.
I would recommend this trilogy of books to anyone.
