Book Reviews of Marie AntoinetteBook Review: Lovely book - but for fans only Summary: 3 Stars
I was desperate to get this book as I was a huge fan of the movie and, being a history buff, am also a great fan of Marie Antoinette. The book is certainly beautifully presented, with many gorgeous photos and the director's script, which makes for interesting reading as you are flipping through. However, I had really hoped to see some writings in the book about how the movie, sets, costumes, etc were designed, interviews with cast and crew, and how Sofia Coppola drew inspiration to create the movie. To be honest, I was disappointed to find it did not contain any of this - I personally thought these items could have been included without compromising on the taste and exclusivity of the book (ie. not turning it into a trashy cheap film-tie-in book, like the ones that get mass produced for some movies) but still it is a beautiful book and definitely worth having if you are a fan of either the film, Marie Antoinette, Kirsten Dunst or Sofia Coppola. Personally, I would still buy it.
Book Review: Madame, This is Versailles Summary: 5 Stars
Completely beautiful! I loved this movie, and everytime I watch it I keep hoping there will be a directors cut 2 disc dvd or something, but nothing has shown up, then I found out about this book. Its little clips of the script and then pictures of the Palace of Versailles, or the characters. Sophia Copolla made a visual masterpiece in my opinion, and the book takes you through the movie easily. If you were a fan of this movie, you need this companion book.
Book Review: Magnifique Summary: 5 Stars
I'm French so Marie-Antoinette is a part of my History! The book from the movie is simply incredible. Inside, you can see the script (in fact, not the total one but some good parts of if) and some beautiful pictures of the movie. I really love it :) So chic!
Book Review: Marie Antoinette Summary: 5 Stars
This book was purchased as a gift. When I received the book, I was very pleased with it and happy to give it as a gift. The recipient of the book as a gift was extatic upon receiving the book. Overall, it was a very good experience.
Book Review: Photo books usually disappoint... Summary: 3 Stars
And they're usually expensive. They do this because producers know people will buy them... fans. When I bought this, I did it with the great expectation of having some of the most beautiful stills form this film. The thing is that the pictures that are on the internet, are so much better than the ones on this book. And they're kinda blurry! Or maybe is the paper but they do lack of the quality that other photo books from movies have.
I was hoping to see many of the stills that are available as wallpapers like the one of Marie holding a fan and Rose Byrne staring at her on the back... that picture rocks.
Only a couple of photos are worthy of having them on this book. And of course, extracts from the script are written... well well...
Generally, it is a disappontment. You might as well, download some great stills from the net and print them with much better quality.
