Book Reviews of Marly's ChoiceBook Review: A Great Begining To An Awesome Series! Summary: 5 Stars
This book may not be for the faint of heart, but for those who love a good, nail biting, mind blowing erotic romance, this is the book for you. This story is about Cade August and is the first book in a series. As you read you'll rant and rave and cry over what the August brothers have had to endure. Finding a way to continue after a horrendously abusive childhood wasn't easy, but in his own way Cade August managed just that with the help and love of Marly. Steamy sex scenes and sensual romance with a twist. One of my many favorites of author Lora Leigh.
Book Review: A genre in between, yet a step below well written Summary: 4 Stars
For me, it seems as if Lora Leigh is creating her own genre. The love scenes, especially the opening, were very memorable, but as most of my fellow reviewers attest, the plot was a little weak. The suspense/thriller plot was believable, but Leigh didn't have enough third person narrative from the stalker. Frankly, it just wasn't scary enough. Mixing romance and suspense is hard enough, but writing a suspenseful erotic romance and not taking up 400 pages to do so must have been very difficult.
I was amazed by the love/hate relationship Cade has with himself. That was part of what made it so interesting. The motives behind the August mens' need to share lovers wasn't thoroughly explained, which made the "need" just seem odd. Granted, it makes a common female fantasy seem less taboo for Marly, but still, I thought that if these three men really loved her in their own ways, they would respect her too much not to give her a better explanation for it, and possibly a description of the horror of their early adulthood.
If your lover wanted to share you, wouldn't you expect a full explanation? Though prolonging the release of these details is probably meant to generate interest in the trilogy, instead of letting this one book stand on its own. But other than that, Marly just seemed too needy. She loves Cade enough to also take his brothers into her body, but she doesn't love him enough to try to help him solve his emotional problems? Instead she lets him share something special between them that should be just for him with his brothers. She started to remind me of one of the weak females in gothic novels that spends the whole book swooning. Stand up for yourself, woman!!!
The reason for the 4 stars was that, though I was slightly disappointed, I will read it again. Personally, I find that some books are actually better the second time around. The first time, you may rush through, just to see what's going to happen or who the bad guy is. Every time after is meant to savor.
