Book Reviews of Marly's ChoiceBook Review: Awesome, breathtaking novel of intense and erotic passion Summary: 5 Stars
Lora Leigh is one of my absolute favorite authors of those who write books published by the erotic romance publisher, Ellora's Cave. This particular book, Marly's Choice, is the first in a series of four books about the August brothers. This first book tells the story of Cade August and Marly. Marly is in love with Cade and wants him to recognize the fact that she's all grown up now and more than ready to become his lover. Cade, who has spent much of his life protecting and sheltering Marly, is hesitant to reveal the depth of his sexual needs to Marly. Marly, however, is determined to break through his shields and reach the man inside... the man who secretly hungers for Marly. I loved watching Marly and her co-conspirators push Cade to his very limits -- and when he finally breaks, all hell breaks lose! Cade is a fiercely sexual alpha male with deep-seated needs. Watching him eventually coax Marly into accepting and meeting his sexual needs (as well as the needs of his brothers) will make you weak in the knees. This book is sexually intense and very erotic. If you want to read an erotic romance novel that will take your break away, here's the one to do it. Once you read this book, you'll want to continue with the rest of the books in this series, each featuring one of the brothers. (Note, at the time this review was written, I think the rest of the books in this series are available only in electronic form from Ellora's Cave. They are well worth pursuing. If you've not tried e-books yet from Ellora's Cave, you are missing out on some fabulously erotic and amazing romance!) Lora Leigh is the author of a number of other books and series, which are not to be missed either! Particularly her Feline Breed series and her Wolf Breed series. Everything Lora Leigh writes is passionate magic!
Book Review: Beginning of a great series Summary: 4 Stars
Marly's Choice is an excellent example of the use of emotion in a sensual story line. If you read this book, you will definitely be buying the other books in this series. If you like this book, take the time to look at Lora Leigh's other series, Legacies and Breed series are wonderful!
Book Review: COVER TO COVER READ....HOT. HOT. HOT. Summary: 5 Stars
Book one of the August Men series.
Can't tell you how much I love reading this author. Her stories are original and don't mimck ideas that have already been written.
Marly has loved Cade since as long as she can remember. No other man will do for her. She returns home from college to seduce Cade. Cade has very deep and dark desires that he is afraid to unleash on Marly. Marly has heard of the rumors of the August Brothers sexual preferences but that does not scare her away. She is prepared to accept his desires. Eventually he gives in and watch out because the sparks do fly.
This book has mystery, love, romance, lots of hot sex (detailed), threesomes,
light bondage and 100% alpha-male tendencies.
There is no way you will be disappointed with this book. Try to read them in order. book one.. Marly's choice.. book two. Sarah's seduction ....book three -Heather's gift and August heat is book four and it wraps up the series....Thou I wish the author could go on with this family.
Book Review: Dark and Titillating Summary: 5 Stars
This was my first Lora Leigh book. It is somewhat of a dark story, where its heroine Marly brings hope, love and light to the troubled hero and his two brothers. It is a story of how the past comes back to haunt the main characters and their attempts to break free. I could not take a break from reading this as I was caught in the moment. I laughed at Marly's mischievous attempts to seduce Cade and his struggle to fight the attraction. There is suspense, great dialogue and hot sex. I was a little shocked by Cade's very close relationship with his brothers and what they wanted Marly to bring into that relationship to make it even closer. But I got over it quickly because it worked well with the story line and was very tastefully done. As a result of reading this book, I took a liking to Lora Leigh's writing style and have gone on to reading more of her books and it always keeps getting better and better. I highly recommend this book!
Book Review: Debauched & Dumb Summary: 3 Stars
I read MARLY'S CHOICE in record speed: I started reading it at approximately 10 p.m. last night and finished at not even 2 a.m. this morning. Not so fast. I flew through pages that constituted Leigh's feeble attempt to create the suspense befitting a "mystery" or "thriller," which fell completely flat. The characters are as well drawn as the actors in a porno are deep. The obligatory storyline is more like an excuse to throw in gratuitous and sometimes borderline-perverse 'love' scenes. There is no balance or thought to realism. No depth. No character development...that makes any sense.
The scheme that Leigh sets out is something like this: Three boys are forced to endure abuse and sexual depravity. When these boys grow into men, the Augusts, Cade, Brock and Sam, they are haunted by what has happened to them. One of the most startling aftereffects of their abuse is their inabilty to show each other love.
According to Leigh, the way the August brothers experience love, feel complete, and resolve emotional distress is by sharing the "one true love" of one of the brothers. For instance, if Marly is Cade's one true love, then Brock and Sam have to join in for a menage-a-quatre. Ridiculous! This is the 'solution' that the brothers have arrived at after many years of excess. They supposedly 'need' this brotherly orgy to take place in order to put their psychological demons to rest.
The August brothers convince Marly that she needs to sleep with them all in order to show her love for Cade. And, believe it or not (I don't) the other brothers miraculously love Marly too--"not as deeply" but in their own way.
It would have been less absurd to me if Leigh did not set out this silly premise holding out the appearance of a legitimate plot. In brief, the dominant nature of Cade was very exciting and even the dirty way that he had of talking and dealing with Marly would have been more palatable if he weren't contemporaneously professing deep love and respect for her. If he convinced Marly to share relations with his friends, this would have been less disturbing. Leigh's justification for their behavior via the weird brothers' coventant to share was beyond contrived. Why couldn't they just go bowling or hang out together? Talk? There aren't any other ways of showing love??!
One scene in particular was over-the-top disturbing and ridiculous: Cade wants to bring the bad guy out into the open. Keeping in mind that this is the same bad guy who nearly molested Marly when she was younger, Cade's idea of provoking the man includes ravaging Marly with plugs and dildos so that he can see it all in plain view. Well, that makes perfect sense (NOT!).
I gave MARLY'S CHOICE three starts because I really liked the dominant edge and alpha male attitude of the male lead. I even liked his dirty mouth and mind. Additionally, I knew not to expect a mentally stimulating story, though I may have hoped for more. What I didn't like was the paper thin flimsy nature of the plot and inconceivable course of events. I wish Leigh would not try to put a gossamer gloss on what is clearly erotic porn. Someone should have told her that putting deoderant over body oder just makes it worse.
Read TEMPTING THE BEAST if you like the hot love scenes. I should warn you not to expect much better as far as story or characterization.
Hot Scenes. Hollow Story.
