Book Reviews of Marly's ChoiceBook Review: Marly's Choice book 1 in series Summary: 4 Stars
Cade August is truly one of the most dominant men I have read in a long time. Everybody is a little afraid of him, even his brothers. When Marly comes home from college, she decides she wants Cade and goes after him. Oddly enough Cade raised her and is conflicted about his feelings for her. This story is rife with taboo subjects - possible male rape and incest(forced upon them), falling in love with the young girl he took in and raised and finally sharing his lover with his brothers. Whew - makes a girls head spin.
I liked Marley a lot - she is young and spunky and knows what she wants. Good for her. Cade is of course tormented as are his brothers and this makes for some interesting story.
If you like erotica, you will enjoy this one. If you are looking for romance - not so much. Me - I was looking for erotica.
Book Review: Nearly 5 stars Summary: 4 Stars
Despite the editing errors and the premise of an alpha male demanding his woman submit sexually to his brothers because of their abusive youth (did push my comfort zone somewhat) I would have given this story 5 stars and understood, or tried to understand, the need these 3 men had to connect through their women.
If only Marly's Choice hadn't had a scene where Cade tried to set up a real orgy (with another woman & man and his brothers, himself & Marly). For me, that attempt blew the brothers "need to connect" through sex with their siblings' women all to hell and back. It really turned me off and made the whole premise of the "need to connect" ring as phony as a three-dollar bill. Fortunately the remaining books in this series avoid any "outside the family" sexual attempts.
Aside from that one scene the rest of the book was good. The characterizations were fascinating, the sex was hot, the story interesting. Love Lora Leigh's writing and can't wait for more books.
Book Review: Over all??? Left a bad taste in my mouth........threw it out....... Summary: 1 Stars
I'm gonna keep this one short and sweet......I usually love Ms. Leigh's books and storylines. BUT this one - well - it's in the trash. I got towards the end and was literally disgusted with the way the story twisted. It ended poorly and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Don't get me wrong ...I'm all for different strokes for different folks but this storyline bordered rape and gave "dom's" a bad name. And then when you think everything's gonna be okay - the lead male "he-man" demands another life altering change of the female lead stating "if you love me - you'll do this one last thing". I have never been more insulted for women all over the world!!! Sorry - I love a good dom/sub storyline but this was ridiculous. I was going to get the other books in the Men of August series....but not now. I'll stick with her other storylines from now on.
Book Review: Overall, an OK read Summary: 3 Stars
This was an OK read. The plot was enough to keep me hooked, and the sex was definitely hot. But the characters themselves made me just a bit uncomfortable, since this was about as close to incest as you can get without actually going over the line. Cade is an extremely dark hero, and you never really get the story behind why he & his brothers are the way they are, and Marly is just a bit to much like a spoiled brat for my liking. But, I'm one of those who, once I start a series, good, bad, or ugly, I try really hard to finish it. So, I'm off to Sarah's Seduction, Heather's Gift, and August Heat, hoping feverishly that they improve.
Book Review: Overrated Summary: 3 Stars
I'm sorry, but this was such a poorly written book!! The plot was decent, but the writing was overblown and repetitive. If Cade "ran his fingers through his hair" one more time, or agonized over how Marly would "run away screaming" if she was exposed to his sex practices, I thought I would scream myself. Also, Cade's character in particular was so overdone. He repeatedly went from extreme anger to gentle sensitivity, without explanation. His hand wringing and angst about his sexual attraction to Marly was particularly annoying. The author provided no explanation of why Cade would be ashamed of his attraction [...]. Cade also repeatedly characterized himself as this sexual bad boy whom Marly shouldn't want to tangle with. [...] The mystery element [...] couldn't save an otherwise uninteresting book. To top it off, the book was full of typographical errors, grammatical errors (repeated and inexcusable use of incorrect verb tense) and typesetting errors. I counted over one hundred of these. Given the astronomical price of this paperback ($...), I would expect a much better product. [...], I would be embarassed to put my name on this poorly written, sloppily edited and printed book. If you want solid romance, with well-written plots and characters, coupled with graphic, raunchy sex, read anything by Emma Holly ("Menage," "Top of Her Game" and "Cooking Up a Storm" are particularly excellent), who is head and shoulders above this author.
