Book Reviews of Max The MightyBook Review: A worthy follow-up to "Freak the Mighty" Summary: 4 Stars
Though not quite as endearing as "Freak the Mighty," "Max the Mighty," is a worthy sequel, if only because the character of Max Kane is one of the most likable literary characters ever created. Be warned, though, the themes in this book (such as child abuse, death of a parent, and suicide) are just as dark and disturbing as the ones in the first book. The overall message of finding friends and companionship is a wonderful one for children of all ages, though.
Book Review: A. Furbush's Book Review Summary: 5 Stars
The exciting story Max the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick tells the thrilling story of a teen boy who is wanted by the police for a crime he didn't commit. Because of his previous adventures in Freak the Mighty, he is brave enough to help a young girl travel cross-country in order to find her father. Freak the Mighty was about Max's father who killed his own wife. This was very hard for Max so when he saw the young girl whose stepfather was beating up her mother, he knew what to do and helped her find her real father.
This action-packed story will not disappoint readers. It is not only well written, but also has a great plot and is very descriptive of the characters. Philbrick does an amazing job putting himself in Max's shoes by writing as if he is talking. This also makes it easy to understand what is happening. Overall, this is a great book and anyone from ages 10 to 15 would enjoy it.
Book Review: Disappointment to Me Summary: 1 Stars
I was looking at all the other reviews for this book and none of them seem to agree with me. The prequel, Freak the Mighty, was a truly original book that touched my soul and made me cry, but Max the Mighty was a disappointment. The plot line went about the same as Freak the Mighty except with different names and a little different problems. Freak the Mighty was one of those books that never should have had a sequel and I was truly disappointed with this book.
