Book Reviews of Max The MightyBook Review: Mapleman Summary: 5 Stars
This book is among my top ten young adult books of all time. I use teaching sixth grade, as a shared read. It offers rich language and is packed with symbolism. All literary elements can be found in this book - foreshadowing is interwoven throughout and students beg to read on. I have read it 5 times and am still finding things that I missed. Max the Mighty is a hero for sure in this sequel to Freak the Mighty.
Book Review: Matt Review Summary: 4 Stars
In this book, Max the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick, there is lots of adventure. The main characters in this story are Max, Rachel, the Undertaker, and Dippy Hippy. If you like a lot of adventure and action you should read this book.
In the beginning, Max meets Rachel by saving her from a bully. Bookworm is Rachel's nickname and they call her that because she always reads books. Rachel has an abusive stepfather named the Undertaker that beats on her mom. Max and Rachel run away from him and go to Chivalry, Montana to find Rachel's real dad. After Max saves Worm (Rachel), Max and Worm become friends. Max and Worm are always side by side. Worm feels safe from the Undertaker when she is with Max.
I liked this book because it is very easy to understand and has lots of adventure. If you read this book you will sometimes feel sad, afraid, and happy. This book is partly about friendship and trusting your friend. Also it is about having two sides to one story because Rachel's mom told Max to take Rachel, but the police agreed with the Undertaker that she didn't. It's kind of like of like doing something illegal to save someone. That is what Max had to go through to save Rachel from the Undertaker.
I recommend this book to people who like adventure and a fast-moving story. This book is good because it is kind of hard to predict, so you can't tell what will happen next. If you are going to read this book, then I recommend you read Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick first.

Rachel lives with her mother in a poorer section of town. Rachel has a step-dad that is very abusive to her mother and Rachel. The step-dad goes by the undertaker and is kind of weird. One day Max decides to save Rachel by taking her out of her home and run away but now her step-dad lied about everything telling her mom what to say because she is afraid. So now Max is in really big trouble with the cops and running to Montana. Now your going have to read the book to find out what is going to happen next.

Book Review: Max the Mighty Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great story, although not as good as the first book called Freak the Mighty. This story is exciting and fun to read. The end of the story is the best part. This story tends to be on going and it doesn't really give you the idea that it is a second part to Freak the Mighty. This story is very different than the first. It doesn't tell much about Kevin who was Max's best friend in the first story. Over all this story is OK. It' s very funny and it has a good plot.
