Book Review: A Fantastic Reference, and Not Just For Conatiner Gardeners

I bought this book when I lived in an apartment, but even now that I have a yard I turn to this book time and time again. The book gives helpful basic gardening details tailored for container gardeners on soil, fertilizer, planting, and eliminating common garden pests. It is the section on individual vegetables, fruits, herbs, and edible flowers that is really great, however. I have never read another gardening book that focuses in so well on edible plants--for each plant, McGee and Stuckey describe whether to grow from seed or buy small plants, water and sunlight requirements, what pests and diseases (if any) to look out for, and varieties you may want to consider. The book always remains accessible and keeps the focus on what you need to know to grow your plants well instead of abstract horticulture. The seed and plant company reference in the back of the book is also very helpful. The theme gardens throughout convey the authors' enthusiasm about the subject and helped give me ideas about what I wanted to grow. The only thing that would've made this book better is some additional information on companion planting.
