Book Review: Life study for harmonic addicts

I got this on the recommendation of my guitar teacher (Esmond Selwyn) back in the early 1980s. It is a monster of a book, written by a guitarist who, for his time, confounded normal mortals. The first great exponent of 7 string jazz guitar, George Van E redefined the scope and sheer orchestral capability of the instrument. His life's learnings are here in this amazing volume (1 of 3). Definitely not for the faint hearted, and most definitely not for not readers of music, this series will take to a level of harmonic understanding and (if you practice) capability that you would simply not consider possible. To make the most of it, youi also need a demanding teacher who can help you through some of the mind stretching theory and physical acrobatics that are involved in full on harmonic/solo play.
With practice, you will sound like two guitarists. Listen to Georges early recordings (check out the vintage jazz guitar album "Fun on the Frets") and you'll be convinced there are three guitarists playing - it's all him, all at once! I saw him play (before he passed on) performing solo, and there was only ever one. A priceless life-work for any serious player.
