Book Review: Book two and the concluding piece of Mickey Bakers guitar studies.

This is part two of his two volume study of jazz guitar. You need to have done book one before starting this or buy them both to study in order. This book covers 6ths, 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths. Here's another 26 lessons in jazz playing which, if you kept up to Mickey's schedule of one lesson a week brings you to 18 months of studying - by which time you should be pretty good at jazz comping and soloing (having spent 2hrs a day for a year and a half on this - about 1100 hours - who said playing was easy?)
I don't think this is the only good book you'll read and study and you'll still need some professional help - but it's a classic piece of work. Try the Alfred Publishing, Jody Fisher books. I also like the Larry Coryell (Series of 3) and Jimmy Bruno's two DVDs on jazz guitar. If you like Steve Vai, Franke Gambale or Joe Satriani, you'll also find a lot here to work on. This will get you back to jazz basics and help develop a fusion style to add to your rock foundations.
At the sort of prices you can get these publications now you can't really go wrong with these classic books that have been selling for half a century - they did that because they were good - the bad ones went a long time ago.
