"MiddleSex" is brilliant - and I'm not easily impressed. I'm not an avid reader, by any stretch of the imagination. Quite often, I am disappointed with books and find them tedious, formulated, and boring. However, Jeffrey Eugenides has surprised me -- surprised me to the point of feeling both amazed and almost saddened. I once thought about writing my own book, creating my own literary work of genius (something better than the general "crap" out there). However, I doubt I could write anything nearly as good as MiddleSex. It's eloquent, intelligent, and imaginative. Most of all, in spite of its genius, it refrains from being pretentious; it's an enjoyable and easy read. My only wish is that Mr. Eugenides never stop writing.
